Arrow Update on Conan reboot

Source

If Paramount Pictures wants Beverly Hills Cop IV completed within the next two years, they're going to have to move forward without director Brett Ratner. He's been weighing his options between a new R-Rated Axel Foley installment and a re-imagining of Conan the Barbarian and the latter won out. Nu Image/Millennium and Lionsgate are prepping this to be a hard R-rated approach to Robert E. Howard's character with hopes of getting the film into theaters sometime in 2010.

Ratner liked what he saw within the Conan script by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly, who looked to Robert E. Howard's original pulp stories of the 1930s to create their take on the character. The writers are doing a quick polish to incorporate some of Ratner's ideas.

Joe Gatta and Avi Lerner of Millennium Films are producing, along with Paradox Entertainment president and CEO Fredrik Malmberg.

Preproduction is already under way for the $85 million shoot at Nu Image's Nu Boyana Studio in Bulgaria with an eye towards making a new franchise of films based around the warrior.

"The story opens on the battlefield where Conan is born and tells the origin story that sets the stage for what will be the first of multiple films," Lerner said.

I don't know it just won't be the same without Aaaarrrnooolllddd.

Apparently there were plans for a 3rd movie with him, it would have mostly taken place on the high seas but it was shelved when he became a big action star.

I'm cool with the reboot as long as the sex, blood, and violence are in it. I'll take a good story as well.

As long as they keep it like the books I am all ok for it, by the way I know that Arnold as always been Conan in the minds of a lot of people but he never really had the physic described by Robert E Howard, far from it

I think it would be dope if they shot the movie in B&W and used red for blood, similar to sin city. As some of you may or may not know...the early comics of Conan (the magazine sized books) were all in black and white. Just a thought!

Problem is Brett Ratner is a hack, he can't make a quality film. He should just make something useless like Money Talks 2, so this pretty much sucks. When has a Ratner movie ever had sex or blood??

I would have trouble coming up with a director I would less like to see make this film.

There is one "director" even worse than Ratner, I honestly can think that would be worse, and I'm sure you will agree with,

UWE BOLL!!

We all remember Conan the Barbarian - but don't we all want to forget Conan the Destroyer?

Money & greed pushed that sequel straight into shame. Take a cult classic and great film (didn't Oliver Stone write it?) and try to cash in.

Series needs a re-boot, and I would rather see it not invest a ton in 'star power' and invest in doing the IP right.

Keep it R

I actually enjoyed Destroyer.

But I agree, keep this reboot R rated, and cast someone believable as Conan.

Well before Robert Rodriquez and his woman Rose McGowan, split they were going to remake Red Sonja with her in the starring role, and he wanted to also do Conan. Some else is already going forward with a Tulsa Doom movie. Rodriguez wanted to remake the entire Conan universe and bloody and as much like the books as he could, but when the couple split I guess the project split as well.

Frankly I'd rather see a movie about Robert E. Howard, HP Lovecraft, and Ambrose Bierce - their writings of the Cthulhu Mythos - and the tragedies that befell all three writers.
