Default Where to place speakers ?

Hello, so I finally ordered Onkyo 606 and Polk RM6750 to get some better sound than the one comin out from the TV. But this being my first speaker setup where do I put the speakers ? I guess front on the sides of TV, center underneath it but what about rears ? I included some pics of my bedroom where this is gonan get installed, do I go very top or middle or right beside my head ? Do I place it pointing down or just pointing towards the Tv ? I know this is very cheap setup and maybe I shouldn't b asking question like i'm installing professional system but maybe it does make a difference how I place it. And the sub do I place it pointing towards me ?
here's pics of my bedroom, plasma is 46" .

If you move your bed out from the wall about 2 feet, then you could place the rear speakers facing inwards towards the bed and just place the front speakers accordingly, center, left and right in front of the TV, Subs sounds ALOT better when placed next to a wall, id say anywhere in that room next to a wall!

No, subs sound worse when placed next to a wall. Do not confuse overly abundant, muddy bass with "better" bass.

Many people would disagree with that statement...

True. And they'd be wrong! (I know I'm failing to not sound like an arrogant prick; sorry...)

The deep, tunefull bass produced by a properly set up sub or speaker system is light years ahead of the thumping, one-note grunge that typically results from near wall (or worsem in corner) placement.

I have a 7.2 setup and have my subs in corner placement. I don't suffer from "one-note" garbage sound that you're talking about. I used to with my Onkyo subs, which is why they are out of commission.

I just cant see how a sub standing the middle of a room sounds better than a sub placed next to a wall, when when next to a wall it reverberated the sound and give the "room shaking" feeling

when i was placing my sub, i found the bass was uneven in my room when placed in the corner. one side of my room had huge bass sound and the other side was absent of bass. so i moved it between my front speakers and the bass is much more even. just my experience.

Yeah, but is that accurate? I'm not advocating middle of room placement, just placement that isn't close to walls (or especially corners).

Room modes run amok near walls, and especially near corners.

Fair enough. You've heard the phenomenom I'm describing, so if you don't suffer it with your current sub in the corner, I'm happy to take your word on it! But I think it working for you is an exception rather than the rule...

You are all correct and incorrect at the same time. The phenomenon of standing waves in a small home theater room does not behave the same in every room. What works in my room is not necessarily the best for your room. I have to agree with Richteer. Many people mistake too much bass or boomy bass with good bass that is part of the music or sound track. Read A Guide to Subwoofers (Part II): Standing Waves & Room Modes. You will be tested at the end of the semester.

Actually, that is not a bad solution. If you hang 4 subwoofers at each corner of your room, you will get incredible and very even bass across the room. This was tested at National Research Council of Canada and Harman International.

+1. That's why I won't give up my M&K subwoofers (V-125 and MX-70b), because they're highly musical and accurate. I also avoid corner placement with them at all costs. I use my systems for music, as well as movies, and I can't listen to music on most home theater systems due to typical bass issues (among other things).
