Default question about ceiling height.

I'm looking at this

http://www.projectorcentral.com/Mits...ulator-pro.htm

When I select the HC 1500 from mitsubishi, 16:9 ration, from this chart, i'm trying to get a 100" diagonal screen (at least I think that's what I'm going with at this time) so the "optimal" Throw Distance is 13', the ceiling mount number given is 16.4" does that mean I need to just set it up with the ceiling mount, and adjust it so the lense if 16.4" from the ceiling???

sorry for the dumb question.... I think that's the size, and about the placement I want for the projector...... My room has a few more limitations than I first thought, size wise, regarding ceiling fans, etc... that I'd rather not remove, so 13' would probably be "ideal" also... I plan on placing the screen (100" diagonal) about 2 feet from the floor, going up, to secure to a diagonal (attic) wall...... so the screen will be 2 feet from the floor, and measure about 50" vertical, so the TOP of the screen, will be a total of 75" or so from the ground.

Sound like any problems so far???? I've never set up a Projector, and I have NO idea what I'm doing

EDIT:

ALSO, since I want to stick to 13' for the mounting, maybe even drop down to 12' for throw distance..... if I still wanted 100" diagonal screen.... but didn't want to sacrafice the room design (with wood molding etc. 12' or 13' is ideal, I need to measure it out some more though) How much "flexibility" is there in the throw distance-to-size ratio??? or do I HAVE to be within a few inches in screen size, in relationship to the Throw distance???????

The 16.4" is the offset from the center of the lens to the top of the screen.
That is the lens shift I was telling you about in earlier posts. Just add that
number to your 75" height off the floor to get the lens height for the projector.
You can then determine how far off the ceiling you need to be.

I would stay as close to the 13' mark as I could. The closer you get to the
screen, the more zoom you have to use to get the desired screen size. I like
to use as little zoom as possible.

again.... thank you!!! I was just worried, because If I got a 100" diagonal, 16:9 screen, and found out I really wanted to put it at 12', would I be screwed...... but I guess I can always just use less of the screen, which isn't a big deal (since I plan on building a screen also..... I'll just order fabric)

thanks.... many more questions to come!!!! Electricity, and Alarm has been activated...... I still think I will want a window-unit A/C for the theater room.... just to make it more comfortable..... plus I plan on running the central air for the addition, and keeping the central air unit for the original structure (which the HT is in) set at a more efficient level (since the Electric bill will be steep, and I don't want to have to crank the A/C just to keep the HT cool.)

The throw of 13' will put you right in the middle of the zoom range (1.0-1.2). It looks like your throws can be anywhere from 11'11" to 14'6" for your screen size with the 16.4" offset above the screen. Regarding throws, the shorter the throw, the brighter the image but the worse the contrast ratio. The longer the throw, the dimmer the image but the better the contrast ratio. Personally, I would use a longer throw closer to 14'6" (zoom ~1) for a couple of reasons: (1) the image quality will be best at a longer throw and your projector should be plenty bright for your screen size, even at unity (1) or less gain; and (2) if you ever decide to use a bigger screen you can keep your projector mount where it is and just zoom the lens out for a screen up to 121" diagonal, although you will either need to lower your screen or raise your projector to account for the greater vertical offset with a larger screen. I can almost guarantee that you will never want to go with a smaller screen.

You've got all the basics, and once you get the projector it will be clearer to you. It's not as hard as it might seem.

I've got the projector.... but it's in the box We just haven't moved into the other house yet, so it's "sitting in wait"

I've only "walked off" the room dimensions.... I need to grab a tape measure and head over there after work today, and make some pencil marks on the ceiling........

Cause you're out here on a forum instead of doing housework! Instead of moderating here, go modify your new place, Beta! I need to talk to your wife so she can motivate you!!
