Welcome to the forum Scott!

And yes, you would certainly benefit from improved picture quality with a Blu-ray player. Size of TV has no bearing on this.

I don't know if you're considering a PS3 as your Blu-ray player, but I would recommend that you do. And for the record, a PS3 is not just for gamers. Mine is used for movies and music roughly 95% of the time.

Yep, you'll notice a difference. Look at you tv manual and just double check your connections, whether you have a hdmi or component connection, pick up a blu-ray player and get the cable that cooresponds to your tv connection.

Good luck, check out the HDTV forum

"HD Ready"? What resolution does it output? If it's still doing standard definition resolution, then no you're not really going to see a difference.

You will notice a difference then. Does it have HDMI or just Component?

Well, couple of things:

1. You're on Blu-ray.com, so people are going to tell you it's worth it.
2. Your tv has an HDMI input and is HD, so it can benefit from blu-ray.
3. It has a low contrast ratio (800:1) so things may not pop as much.
4. It's small (27") so you'll have to sit pretty close.

Keeping those things in mind, yes it's worth it. Especially if you consider later upgrading your set to something larger and with a better resolution and contrast ratio. As it stands now though you will be able to tell a difference in the PQ with blu-ray.

Hi all

Brand new to Blu Ray myself (just bought a Sony S350 last week)

Trying hard not to replace too many of my SD Dvd collection (1089 last count )

But damn that new Zulu BR looks enticing

Cheers

I thought the same thing..... my SD DVD collection is about the same as yours (but I gave up on an exact count LONG ago )

Just don't fight it..... certain movies like 2001, Bladerunner, Godfather trilogy, Cool Hand Luke, etc... all are MUST haves on Blu-ray! It's like seeing them for the first time!

You will notice a difference in picture quality. What's even more important than picture quality to many movie lovers, is the quality of the audio. If you have a sound system that will allow you to take advantage of the lossless audio tracks available on most blu-rays; you will notice a difference there as well.
