Default Home Theater room remodel project

OK guys need some opinions. I'm going to be remodeling our theater room and I think I've decided to put tile down instead of carpet. I know tile isn't the ideal theater room flooring but I will be getting an area rug and will most likely go with some acoustic treatments of some sort.

I also plan on lowering the center channel and placing it right below the TV, since it sits too far back and a little too high.

Here is the current picture of how the front of the room looks.

The second picture being the tiles I have picked out to possibly put in the room.

I would love to have any opinions on these tiles, colors of wall panels, and any other thoughts or additions I might make while starting this process.

Thanks!

The middle tile for sure. It sets a different contrast from the wall color.

Where is the Left Front? It seems too far from the TV when compared to the Right front. The center shelf looks a bit odd to me. I don't really like the look, but that's just my preference.

The room has some strange dimensions. It's a long and skinny room. I can get more pictures but to describe it I have a leather full sofa and love seat. The room is about 24 x 12 or so. It makes for a narrow room with both couches but I need them so I can sit more than just 3 people.

The left speaker (which is out of the pic) is about the same distance from the TV it is just a weird angle that I shot the photo.

I have the room running long ways as you can see.....would it be better to turn it the other way? I wouldn't think so but that's just me.

I have a room of similar size and shape, probably 30' X 15' I set it up wide ways and got a Coaster Promenade sectional. Only seats four, but there's not a bad viewing spot on it.

From what I understand, the wall where your TV is is 12' wide? It's best to keep it that way. Also I you can, you could put a separation to have a lenght around 19'5". This way your room dimensions would respect the golden ratio which are known to be the best for room acoustics.

Check the distance between your display to your main viewing position. Ideally you should keep to a certain distance (depending on your display size) to resolve all the details. Look at this thread for information on viewing distances. If you can fit the other couch and keep a proper viewing distance, great.

it appears that your furniture is mostly wood. If you go with the darker tile i think it will be to dark and look bad with dark wood furniture. I think the third one would not match with anything either. I think the first one looks really nice and classy and would go with your furniture better then the other ones.

Yeah, but trust me the room is awkward and I think I've gotten to the best setup I can with the sofa and love seat.

It's just narrow and I can't think of any other way of moving them around. Another reason is I have doors that lead to my garage that give me problems.

Overall, as it is right now I think it gives an overall good view for all (generally speaking).

Another question for anyone out there.

I'm kind of an idiot and purchased Klipsch SS.5 to complete my 7.1 surround. It was a great price at $99 w/ free shipping for the pair.

I purchased them thinking that my current pair of surrounds were SS.5. Of course they aren't they are actually the reference series RS 10's.

They are about the same size and look, the only difference I can really see is the Peak Watts.

Question is will I notice a huge difference or should I just be happy with the deal I got and keep what I'm getting.

I'd put the first and second tile down in some kind of pattern. Maybe the 1st in a 24x24 size and the second in a 12x12 size?

Let me know how it sounds when you're done as I'm thinking of going with acid stained concrete when I get my basement done (hate carpet) and am curious as to how well a throw rug helps in what would otherwise be an echo-y room.

I've wondered about purchasing some Klipsch speakers. Do you like them besides this?

Yesterday I lucked up on some Klipsch F1 towers on open item special at Best Buy for $150 each. The sales guy was a little shocked when I said those would be my surrounds... LOL. I love my Klipsch, especially now that I am running towers in all four corners.

I love my Klipsch speakers. The fronts are about 6 years old now but still sound amazing, the rest are about 3-4 years old. I used to work for at an electronics store so I got everything at cost and I got a very reasonable deal on most of my equipment.

I'm sure that the quality of both series (Synergy and Reference) are good but I'm just hoping I won't hear a huge difference since I accidentally bought the Synergy when the rest is Reference series.

Update: Sorry I missed some of the previous posts. Thanks for reassuring me that it will be OK!

You should be happy with the deal you got. And especially since they are both Klipsch speakers you are not going to notice a difference in sound.

I agree. You need to worry about timbre matching to a lessor extent in your surround channels than you do with front channels. Since you're talking about two different Klipsch models of roughly the same size and speaker type (surround), you should be fine.

Alright here is the final product of 4 hard days of work. I gave attached pics of the process / final product. I just have a few more things to do but it's just about done.

That looks really nice! Think you did a good job.

My only suggestion/gripe is that your center channel is just too high. But if it sounds good to you, then leave it.

Nice job!
