A co-worker told me that the PS3 uses up to 7 x's the electricity of a stand alone Blu-Ray player. Any truth to this statement??

"5. You want to be green. The PS3 is great at a lot of things, but conserving power isn't one of them. If you're looking to stay green and limit your power consumption, you'll be much better off using a standalone Blu-ray player. For example, the PS3 sucks up about 170 watts while playing a Blu-ray movie, while the Samsung BD-P1400 only uses about 25 watts. That's a fairly huge difference and can easily wipe out any power savings from using other green products such as the Philips Eco TV. (Check out our guide to TV power consumption for more green tips.)" full article here |

I don't know what a standard blu-ray player uses. I think my PS3 uses over 200 watts though.

The new PS3 use 65nmRSX and 65nm Cell. The MAX power usage is under 120 watts. Basically, you use less than $.05 for a movie (depending on price per Kwh). How many people can afford $.05 for a movie? ![]() |

I dunno man.. in today's economic environment I'm pretty strapped... $.05 buys me .... alright well I can't think of anything but if I had $.10 I could at least make a copy of my face on the library copier... I wonder how many people say, "I can only play games 2 hours a day or my electric bill will be too high" |
