Sylvania NB501SL9 - Good or bad?

Hey all,

I was thinking about getting my parents a Blu-Ray player this Christmas, because they luuuurve their new 54" Sony Bravia and watching stuff in HD. Heck, half the time they ask me to bring my PS3 out there to watch Blu-Rays. So, I figured the ultimate present this year would be a BR player.

The problem is, as we all know, they are a bit pricey (but well worth it!). Seeing as I am only 18, I can't go spending $300 on one. So, I need to find a cheaper alternative... which has lead me to the Sylvania. Now, I've never heard of a great Sylvania product, but it's really the only one I can afford. So, can anyone offer some opinions on the player? Especially, how is the upconverting on it? I couldn't find a review around. Thanks!

you can get the panasonic bd-35 for $229 at bestbuy.com today only, or from costco for $199 so people say, also check amazon $249. this player can upconvert very well.

or the Sony 350 $249 amazon also. costco has for $229

these are prolly better players, don't know much about the slyvania personally.

Generic brands are just a waste of money because most of them you cannot update and become useless over time. You can refer them to disposable contact lenses.
