Default For Those of us who dont have HD-AUDIO

So for those of us who dont have HD-Audio capeable recievers

Why is there now English DD5.1 track on blu rays (atelast most of them)?

why is there allways french DD 5.1 or spanish. but no English

Only English DtsHD or DDHD options

Im not sure im understanding the reasoning behind this

maybe some one here can explain

If you cant get the HD-Audio you will hear the 'core track' which is the Dolby Digital or just DTS

As far as I know, and this is from lurking over in the HT section, your receiver has to be capable of decoding DTS HD-MA and Dobly TrueHD. The PS3 does the decoding itself I believe. But if you had a standalone, you would need the receiver to do the decoding

right which mine is not

But when im vewing something that offers DD.5.1 or DD 2.0 digitals urround sound

the reciever well recognise it as such, when none of the following is highlighted in red, it usually means its in Stero sound

in most Blu rays that i have experienced there is never an exact option for English Dolby Digital 5.1

But there allways seems to be for forigen languages

Depends on the Blu-rays I suppose, I know 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' only has a DD 5.1 option as far as English tracks go. I noticed that with the foreign languages as well. Not sure what the deal with that is lol

In English-speaking homes, apparently. I would guess that the reason why there'd only be one HD audio track per disc would be to save disc space. Warner probably doesn't offer HD audio with many releases for the reason that, in most non-literal senses, nobody has surround sound.

and why wouldn't it be? most of the receivers on the market for the last 3 years have been able to decode or accept the HD codecs or at least some of them.... many people, myself included decided when they entered the High Def area to jump with both feet...

Here was my time-table...

first HDTV(720p)-March '07
Onkyo HTiB-April '07
Dish Network High def-May '07
first PS3-June '07

waiting....

Onkyo 605-Oct '07
second HDTV(1080p) December '07
second PS3-January '08

geez...I need to do some updating...lol...

I just dont see how

I bet you the average Blu ray family that has surround sound still only has a 5.1 audio reciever.

but that still dosent explain the reasoning behind why there is no English 5.1 dd track on these movies

From High Def Digest:
"Blu-ray discs can provide their movie soundtracks in any of the following formats:

Dolby Digital
What it is: The audio format familiar from DVD, Dolby Digital (sometimes known as AC-3) is one of the base standards of Blu-ray. It works basically the same way that it worked on DVD in configurations from 1.0 to 5.1, though it does offer a higher maximum bit rate of 640 kb/s (which is considered audibly indistinguishable from Dolby Digital Plus at the same rate).
Level of support: Full support for Dolby Digital is mandatory in all Blu-ray disc players.
Examples of discs that use it: Almost all Blu-ray discs from Sony, Warner Bros., Paramount, and Lionsgate, among others."

Forrest and/or Jen - DD IS included in almost all Blu-ray discs. If it comes with Dolby TrueHD (and in most cases PCM), then basically it comes with Dolby Digital - if you have a receiver that cannot decode the TrueHD, then you will get the core lossy Digital track anyway. Hence why they don't list it on the spec sheets on the back of movies with TrueHD. But since French/Spanish doesn't have a TrueHD option, they list them as regular old DD.

But again - if it has TrueHD, it has Dolby Digital.

And if it has DTS-HD MA, it has regular old DTS.

If your receiver can decode it, it'll go lossless, if not, you'll just get the lossy core.
