Default I am forever being logged out of the PSN

I briefly asked this question in another thread, but I am having trouble with the PSN. I am constantly being logged out off the PSN. Its so annoying, especially when gaming online. Does this happen regularly to other users? Is there a solution? Do you think the problems lies with my router? (Belkin N1 wireless) Perhaps my network settings? Its so frustrating and love to get it sorted.. I couuld be on for 5 mins or Half an hour and then get logged out, its never the same length of time.

dk3dknight suggested disabling the Media Server Connection, but unfortunately that didnt work.. If anyone has any tips or ideas that would be great.

Thanks

It's usually a communication thing with the router. How far from the router are you? Is the ps3 hidden in a cabinet or are there other electronics and walls between the ps3 and the router?

Try moving it around the room and seeing where the connection is more consistent.

Sometimes it boots me out of the PSN store, something about "you've been logged out". I just relogin and everything is fine, but it just started to happen about a few months ago.

If someone has some info on this, it'd be appreciated. thanks.

I have my SKY HD box beside it, its an open shelf set up.. I also have a IR sender/receiver box. Its a small box with a scart connection sending the picture signal upstairs to another tv.. That could be a problem perhaps?

You have the router beside it? Have you tried a physical connection rather than the wireless?

no, sorry, the router is upstairs.. Its the only place for it. I have tried the physical connection and if i remeber correctly it also logged me out after a period of time. Im going to buy a home plug anyway, might help somewhat

whats your signal strength?

if it is sub 35%, you will get random disconnections....

I had the same troubles, then, I bought a range extender from Amazon...no troubles now and I have 100% signal strength in stead of 27%.

its 50%-60% all the time.. and as i speak I am logged out! gone!! Like, I dont think it is my internet line dropping because, for example, I am logged into MSN and that doesnt say that I have been disconnected.. So its a problem with the PS3/PSN/router?

Don't feel pregnant. Mine signs me out all the time too. My PS3 has always given me troubles with networking.. both wireless and wired. I never use it to stream media because I have constant little error messages in the top right hand corner.. something about DLNA. The media still streams..... but the constant messages are annoying.

I also ended up having to assign IP addresses to every device on my network because every time I turned my PS3 on, it would grab an IP address that was already in use and crash my whole network.

do you have any firewalls setup?

try disabling them and see if that helps with the disconnects.

well...do you have any fears of hackers? I don't at home...I live in a rural area, so, I'm pretty sure no one will intercept my signal.

Also...what router do you use?

I have a Linksys that I upgraded the firmware to Tomato...and it lets you put in exceptions for things to go through the firewall...when i did have a firewall up, I hard coded it to allow the PS3 and WOW to, no matter what, be able to get through the firewall.

Do you have other people/devices connecting to that router? We had problems with our Windows and Apple laptops knocking each other off the network ..and when we got the PS3 the same thing was happening to it. Often but not always Windows would require a re-boot to get back on.

Basically whenever something else logged on to the network there was a varying percentage of times another device would lose it's connection.

If Windows was first on .. it was 100% guaranteed my wifes Apple would knock me off when she got home. Only occasionally in reverse and similar with the PS3.

We replaced our Linksys with an Apple router and it happens once in a blue moon now. I just don't think some routers are very good at handling the way devices from different mfgs negotiate a connection.

thats because people don't know how to assign IP addresses to this and just use the auto-config option...never keep a floating IP on something that you want to have a stable and reliable connection constantly...thats the biggie here.

You need to assign IP's to all of those things..otherwise they will bounce other hardware out of the network because they think they are more important than what is currently there.

sounds to me like some kind of interference, is someone operating a microwave? or cordless phone? a neighbor perhaps? is there a neigbor with a wireless network on the same channel? I would start with trying a different channel, you can set it on the router. Also try relocating the router, or larger antenna, or find a way to hardwire it.

A DNS error happens because your PS3 sends out packets of info and between the packets deliveries, it times out....but, you don't know about it until it tries to send the information again and there is a lull in the connection. In your routers hardware you can adjust the lag out time manually...or the time between the packet deliveries. I'm not wise in leading people down the correct path, I just have been able to bounce my way through it and figure out the best way for my setup.

I understand what your saying but it went away when we got the Apple. Our PS3 I always had assigned to a specific IP .. I did that when I was setting up the remote play stuff.

It might help if you assign the PS3 with a Static IP address and add the DNS Primary and Secondary IPs of your ISP on the PS3.

Easy to do and should help with DNS issues.

When you do a connection test what NAT does it give you? (On the PS3)

NAT1 being the best in my opinion for Online gaming and Communication, NAT2 is also OK but you are going to have issues if you are using NAT3.

Anyway hope it helps
