I agree with it completely and prefer season 1 as well. Season 2 dragged too much in many episodes and lacked a bit of the absurd fun of season 1. It still was very good TV but season 1 would be a 4,5 or a 5 for me and season 2 is more of a 3,5.

For me it is like this: I don't really care if Wilfred is some kind of supernatural being or Ryan's subconscious. For me he can be "absolute" and does not need a complicated backstory. Don't explain too much - it just takes away the sheer fun. It is the dynamic between Ryan and Wilfred and the lessons Wilfred "teaches" Ryan what makes this series fun.
