Default Sweet @$$ speakers OR $h!t ton of blu rays?

One thing I have noticed since I joined the forums is the number of people that have a TON of blu rays. Like over 100, and all hooked up to a HTIB...

100 blu rays x $20 = $2000 !!!!!

That could surely buy you a 5.1 system that you could be proud of.

Anyone with me on this?

agreed.

it's just easy for people to spend $20 at a time. and before you know it, you're proud of what you've collected. i bet in hind sight it looks a lot different. i have to tell myself i have netflix so i don't buy any movies.

Agreed! It's far better to put that money towards speakers and then spend $15 a month on Netflix

Clearly you haven't played some of my Blu-rays on good speakers. Otherwise you'd know the meaning of putting speakers to work.

Remember a good 2.1 system is always better then a mediocre 5.1

I have to disagree with this, even though I can see the point to an extent. Instead of spending $60+/month on new blu-rays, pay the $15/month on Netflix and put the rest toward your system.

I think thats what MacDaddyOJack meant because he used "then" not "than".

It's possible I misread the post. It wasn't the first time and I'm sure it won't be the last.

A poll might be appropriate for this thread:

Option 1: Just Blus
Option 2: Just 5.1 Setup
Option 3: Both

Thumbs up

Agree 100%. I broke my addiction to buying blu rays to save up for my Rotel seperates ! Takes a while to get used to not buying all the new releases but in the end when you do put in a blu ray and let's face it we only watch one movie at a time.........the wait will be priceless !

I've been purchasing less, and actually using my DVD collection to "Feed the Monkey" on my back when Blockbuster doesn't send me disks fast enough

What's funny is when people with those many Blu's brag about it and when you ask them why they only have an HTIB system, they say they can't afford a better system in this economy.

This is not a nag or picking on this quoted poster, but my outlook on others and their stuff. (Or i tried not to nag)

I don't think it's funny making fun of someones equipment (quote "What's funny"), and if they are proud of their collection then let them be proud. There is always someone with better. You will never see Bill Gates posting here...wanna compare your system with his, I'll betchya his is better (just the extreme example).

People paying $20 x 100 movies ofer a period over a year or 3, is easier on the pocket book, and lets face it, A bought movie serves as instant gratification and escape from reality at the drop of a hat. Great speakers aren't that important after all. Or at least not to every one.
Personally I try to balance my poisons. but what I have is total junk compared to some, and I would expect no one to make fun of my stuff and I in return would never do that either. Maybe I see it that way because I still have my HTIB in my garage collecting dust, waiting to be sold on eBay or wherever.

Whatever...IMHO....SMILE SUPER BOWL IS ON 3 MINUTES LEFT DAMN SAFETY!

I wasn't implying that I make fun of people's system. Not in the least. I never have and never will judge people's setup like that. We all start somewhere, right? Try to re-read my post. It's not as bad as you think. I see the irony in the whole thing funny is all. By the way, I hope you didn't forget that Bill Gates used to work at Microsoft and Microsoft used to be a supporter of HD-DVD and Digital Downloads. Do you really think he'd have a system that utilizes Blu-ray? (No offense to Bill Gates by the way- it's just a joke).

I think speakers are important. I think most people would agree with that after a bit of a movie demonstration on my system. I don't quite understand myself why people will deliberately take time out of their lives to go around and call people's systems garbage. I've never called any HTIB system that someone owns garbage. I used an HTIB system to get me where I'm at today. I've actually only spent a couple hundred dollars more on my current audio system I have today than I spent on my Onkyo HTIB system.
Whatever...IMHO....SMILE SUPER BOWL IS ON 3 MINUTES LEFT DAMN SAFETY!
Sorry for the confusion. It's a tight game.
