Post Changed my crossover from 80hz to 100hz. Stay with 100hz?

So i got the type of receiver that i can only apply one crossover and it applies for all the speakers at once. My fronts are the jamo s608 tower speakers and center and rears are jamo too. I was watching movies with 80hz crossover and it was fine , but when i changed it to 100hz , the bass is alot and alot cleaner and even the dialogue volume from the center speaker is cleaner and i can hear it easier than before. Also i cant localize bass from subwoofer , so i guess its good. Should i stay with 100hz ? Thanks !

If it sounds better to you with the crossover set to 100hz I say leave it there. The crossover setting is there so that you can adjust the system to your speakers and your listening environment. It may have been that with the 80Hz crossover that your speakers were distorting trying to get that low or maybe with Bass comming from all the speakers your were getting some wave amplification because of reflections off your walls. What ever the case if it sounds better to you then I say keep it there.

Hope that helps

I think i was geting some sort of wave amplification because of the side woofer near the side walls. Not even 1 meter. Am i losing any frequency or something ?because my center and rears specifiations says that the frequency response is 80hz and up.

no. the crossover will reroute all the frequencies below 100hz to your sub. which should be able to produce audio up to around 120hz or so. which means you should be all good

There's nothing magical about 80Hz. If 100Hz sounds better to you on your equipment in your room, then that's where you should set the bass management crossover.

Agreed. What I've found is that if you're in a relatively small space or apartment, and have a smaller subwoofer, raising the crossover is a real boon. You will use less power to drive your mains, and the subwoofer - which may not go as deep as some powerhouse monster - will fill in the upper registers (60-120 Hz) very well indeed.

Placement is important, since the way the longer waves propagate is tricky to manage. But there is no reason to use 80Hz as a "magic number" at all. It's a good starting point if you're fiddling with it.

Indeed i live in an appartment and room is 4.3 m x 4.6 m and i sit about 2.7 meters away from fronts and TV. Room is wide opened from the left and on the right is closed and there are furniture , like piano , computer desk , etc and sometimes i hear the right speaker is brighter / louder than the left.

Indeed, thats why i set my crossover at 100hz and found out that it was the best crossover to use because when the x-over was set at 80hz , the 80hz-100hz bass played by the fronts was kinda distoring / boomy because they were set near the wall and i cant move them , so the x-over was the only solution and it worked out pretty well.

Let me post a pic of my set up.

If you think that the bass sounds deeper and the center channel sound cleaner by all means keep the crossover at 100 hz.
