Default HELL BOY 1 too dark???

so, I had never seen the first Hell Boy before, so I recently bought. Watching it last night, there were many scenes that seemed way too dark, but I didn't feel like messing with my options, so I left it. Just wondering if anyone else who has a copy could check this out themselves. Some scenes I could only clearly see a persons face, and their black clothing showed no detail what-so-ever. And 'no', I don't have by brightness turned too low, never had a problem on another movie. THANKS!!!

Watched it probably 5 or 6 times on BD, and it's not too dark. You've got what sounds like some serious black crush. You need to calibrate your set.

4.5/5 is really high

I'd say aramis is right. It's either you're set up or the movie is just really dark.

Cool

This movie has perfect black levels and arguably better PQ than Hellboy II IMO

HellBoy looks like pure film. Reference quality stuff - not too dark.

hmmm, maybe my plasma is getting some usage and I need to recalibrate. It's just strange because every other movie I have looks fine. Dark Knight looked fine for Christ's sake!!! Time to pull out the calibration disc...

i agree. hellboy 1 pq is good. it did seem a little dark in the opening scene to me, but after that, it was great.

Sounds like your display or player (or even receiver) is having problems passing blacker than black detail. Also known as black crush.

ps3 going directly into pany 50pz80u. Just to note, I ran my Avia disc again tonight in total blackness, and noticed I changed my settings up a bit. Probably just past break-in, and am now having to compensate. Started another thread about this and bias lighting somewhere else.
