Timbre matching means that the perceived tonal quality of the sound remains constant when a car, a motorcycle, an airplane, a woman walking with high heels on hard tile floors in a hallway, and other sounds that come from an object in motion or pans across the sound stage say from left to right (or vice versa) or front to back (or vice versa).

To achieve this, HT speaker manufacturers will usually timbre match speakers in the same series like the Energy C-series, as an excellent example. Timbre matched speakers have the same tweeters and drivers or similar drivers of different sizes but made out of the same materials to the same design specifications. Sometimes cabinet shape and dimensions as well as driver placement in the cabinet can play a key role too.

You really need to find the C-C100 center for your C500s. It works great with my C300s. Amazon, wwstereo.com, and Audio Advisor still have them.

Better get them soon. They seem to be going fast now that the Connoisseur Series replaced the C series.

Timbre
Definition according to ANSI: The combination of qualities of a sound that distinguishes it from other sounds of the same pitch and volume.

Timbre is also known as tone quality or tone color. It is sometimes described as sound quality. The term quality in this context refers to how a sound comes across to a listener as the general character of the sound.

In music, timbre the quality of a musical note or sound or tone that distinguishes different types of sound production, such as voices or musical instruments. More specifically, timbre enables the listener to identify the source of the sound ( the particular musical instrument making the sound) and according to some musical type such as a brass or string instruments. For example, timbre is what people use to distinguish a trumpet from a saxophone if both instruments are playing notes at the same pitch and loudness.

Pitch
In music, pitch is the perception of the fundamental frequency of a note. Pitch is something perceived by the human ear, as opposed to frequency, the physical measurement of vibration. Pitch of a sound is determined by the frequency of vibration of the sound waves reaching the ear: the greater the frequency, the higher the pitch.

Pitch can be rank ordered on a scale from low to high and loudness can be arranged on a scale from soft to loud. Although pitch and loudness are not necessarily uni-dimensional, they are often reduced to one dimension: correlating loudness with intensity and pitch with fundamental frequency.

Timbre is different than pitch and loudness and cannot be reduced to one-dimensional scale. It cannot be related with any one physical dimension of a sound. This makes the definition of timbre very vague.

Hey guys...
So I still havent had any luck finding the C-C100
I called wwstereo.com and they are out of stock. I would consider audio advisor but they only have the cherry model. Apparently the C-C10 is the replacement for this and its priced at $349 but I was hoping to find it for cheaper.
I can get the RC-LCR for $300 but Im not sure how well this would match my c-500s
any other ideas??
