Default Minimum room size specs?...

I'm going to be moving sometime in the year, and I want to make sure that my new place has a room capable of being transferred into a dedicated front-projection theater room...

That being said, what's the minimum (or, i should say, "recommended") depth, height, and width that a room would have to be for?:
  • 130" screen
  • two rows of four nice seats (back row rasied up, obviously)

Or?:
  • 160" screen
  • two rows of four nice seats (back row rasied up, obviously)

Or?:
  • 130" screen
  • three rows of four nice seats (back row rasied up, obviously)

Or?:
  • 160" screen
  • three rows of four nice seats (back row rasied up, obviously)

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Part of this depends on whether you are doing an acoustically transparent screen or not. If you are (i.e. speakers behind the screen) then you can go with a narrower room. I also presume you are talking about screen widths.

Just off the top of my head, these would be reasonably comfortable measurements for those specs for speakers set in front of the screen:

18'x20'

22'x20'

18'x26'

22'x26'

On average, you need about 6 feet of space between seating rows for comfortable passage, and you could probably do rows of 5 seats with these widths. The width is mainly to accommodate the screen width and speakers/subs adjacent to the screen.

Again, you can probably cut off about 4' in width if you are going with an acoustically transparent screen.

Cool - thanks for the info!...

What about room/ceiling height? Isn't that a factor, or no?...

I'd say minimum 7', preferably at least 8'. In general, the taller the better; although very tall ceilings will make the room challenging acoustically and also from the standpoint of projector mounting, unless the room is tall and long enough to support a separate projection room behind/above the seating positions.
