Default Movie and TV Genre Prejudice

Do you have certain genres of movies and/or TV shows that you stay away from???
Are there exceptions (a movie or TV show that was good despite you not liking the genre)???

My personal example: I don't like Westerns. I have never really liked Westerns. For the most part, they have all seemed very cookie-cutter to me.
My exceptions are
the movie Unforgiven and the
TV show -The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. (Although, this may be because I like Bruce Campbell).

What about anyone else. Do you dislike Western? Sci-fi? Action? Drama? Romance? Anime? Comedy? Buddy Flicks? Sports Movies?

(If I get enough responses, I'll put up a poll in another day or two.)

I stay away from British Drama and Period Pieces as they seem a little dry to me.

As Eddie Izzard said they usually have titles like "A room with a view of a lake and a pond"

I don't have any to the point where I'll just flat out say I won't give that film/show a chance because it's scifi/western/Martial Arts ect.
That being said I'm not a huge martial arts, action or western fan, but there are definitely exceptions & great movies in those genres.

what about english comedies? "The Importance of Being Earnest", "Death at a Funeral", "keeping Mum"...amongst others, rock my cawk.

to OP: I tend to avoid anything that looks shitty in a preview or by what I've read about it, not by genre....I would consider that retarded.

I have no problems with English comedy, only drama. I am a HUGE Monty Python NERD. I have The English Man Who Went Up A Hill on DVD.

Honestly, besides utterly stupid movies like Disaster Movie and those other spoof flicks, I don't stay away from any genre. I'm completely open. One of the reasons I love watching movies is because they take you to different places. Want to go from a ninteenth century tavern in the black hills of South Dakota to Ancient Rome? Just take out 'Deadwood' and pop in 'Rome'. Or take out 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly' and pop in 'Gladiator'.

I also used to avoid all Anime (and to some extent still do).
My early exposure to Anime was:
1. comedies with the misshapen Anime heads, and annoying voices.
2. Over actionized flashy shows ---- Dragonball Z and Shows with Mechs.
----None of which I was too fond of.

The movie that changed it for me was Samurai X:Trust and Betrayal, which actually had drama, action, and a plot.
I showed it to my sister a little while ago (who also is not into anime), and she also liked it alot.
Since then I have been able to enjoy:
Rurouni Kenshin Seasons 1&2
Akira

I still can't get into what they show on Adult swim or stuff like Cowboy Bebop or Dragonball.

(I do like a great deal of non-Anime, animated shows like The Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama.)

I also do not see horror films because most of the time they are remakes of J horror films I love, or they just look stupid.

DBZ and Digimon is what introduced me to the world of Japanese animation, but the real treats are the serious shows with real original drama. My only problem with anime is is that it seems the same to me. Once you've seen one anime, you've really seen them all.. but very few shine in through.

ANYTHING by Hayou Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Mononoke Hime, Howl's Moving Castle)

Akira and Steamboy

Cowboy Bebop, Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Remnai, Wolf's Rain, Chobits, etc.

have you seen "Paprika"?

I'm not a dragon ballz/cowboy bebop fan either but I adore Akira and Spirited Away and paprika leans more towards this type of anime. The first Ghost in the Shell is good too

That's sad because Happy Gilmore is a work of pure genius. So is Joe Dirt.

I watched and liked the first 2 Scary Movies. I then saw the 3rd and thought it was horrible.

One day the wife and I were sitting at home with nothing on TV. They had "Date Movie" on demand for free.
......As you can guess, the rationalizations started ........maybe it won't be that bad. Maybe the 3rd Scary Movie was just the one bad movie that they did ....... Wrong. I now avoid their movies like the plague.

When it comes to movies: just as long as its good then I don't mind what the genre is.

I agree. I also tend to stay away from Reality television. It's scripted and edited just like any other show.

My one exception was: Who wants to be a superhero.
I found it funny, and I like Stan Lee (who hosts it). Maybe it is because the first time that I turned it on; I saw a bozo in a costume get dragged around a backyard by some police dogs.
