Default Considering a Panny Plasma

Ive never really researched Plasmas, only a little and i am confused on a few things.

1) how is the life expectancy for plasmas compared to LCDtvs?
2) are plasmas better then LCDS for sports( i watch a ton of basketball and nfl)
3) are plasmas better then LCDS for video games?( i play a ton of ps3 games)
4) if i get a 42 inch Panny, would i notice the difference between 1080P and 720P?

planning on waiting 6 months to get one, what is a good price for these things? i saw $750 for a 720P and 888 for a 1080P for the 80U.

do u guys reccomend any others?
im gonna save up $870 for a plasma or maybe LCD depending on what would be better for someone likes me ( who plays a lot of games and watches sports)

thanks for all your help.
currently i have an HP LCD 32" 720P which i got for $400 locally.

1. Not sure, but I'm guessing both are close to the same.
2. For sports, I'd give it to plasmas since motion blur, while only a small issue on LCD's, is a non-issue with plasmas.
3. I'd say it's a draw.
4. Depends on how far away you plan on sitting. If you're going to be sitting pretty close to your tv, you might be able to see the difference.

As far as price is concerned, I got mine for $845 with free shipping from www.6ave.com, and I would imagine that by the time you go to purchase your tv, prices will be down on the new models, which should release in February, or you may be able still find the 80 versions discounted.

1) 1080p Plasma has life of 100,000 hours thats 42 years if you are watching 6 hours per day

2) Panasonic Plasma have no blur so are ideal for sports

3) I do play Call of Duty and Gears of War on my Plasma but to be honest I think Games go to LCD. I played on my friends Samsung ln40 a650 and it was great.

4) I say anthing above 40 inch you will notice 1080p (depending on how far away you are sitting)

Also the Pan th42pz80u 1080p can be found online for 800-900 and it is a great tv.

So although LCD for Games I think Plasma wins all the other categories.

I usually went with periods of 12-14 hours but I think I did have a 24 hour run somewhere in there

Ill probably do 12 hrs a day for 10 days then get yelled at my rents for leaving it on.

btw nice name panasonicplasmaman LOL.
ive never considered a plasma till i saw a few myself at my local best buy.
the image quality and colors look a lot better then LCD imo. i saw the king kong blu-ray or HD DVD prewview and i was blown away by the image i saw.

Maybe ill get one in Late FEB/ Early march after the new models come out.

Oh yes another question, are wallmounts the same for LCDS and plasmas?

Yes, wallmounts are universal.

And use this site http://myhometheater.homestead.com/v...alculator.html to see if you would notice the difference between 1080 and 720

At 7-8ft you may notice the difference on a 42" with 20/20 or better eyesight.
I have 15/15 vision with glasses on and I noticed the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 32" at 6'.

As for your choice of TV's, your are on the right path. You'd have to spend thousands of dollars on the top line of LED LCD's (Samsung 950 and Sony XBR8) to acheive the sort of performance you get from the $1,000-$2,000 Panasonic plasma's.

I'm holding out for 46". I bought a 37" Panny from a person looking to upgrade and the price was right so I pulled the trigger. I've outgrown it but the PQ is very very good and I'm really not sorry I bought it as it has given me many enjoyable hours of viewing.

I think the prices will really drop as Circuit City, Best Buy and the like are hurting with this economy! I think under $1000 is reasonable for a good 46" Panny plasma in the very near future.

They'll be losing even more money that way. The Yen is strong, so the list price that BB/CC are buying at isn't going down.

Yes, less motion blur.

Yes, unless you are sensitive to phosphor trails (I don't see them at all), plasmas are better IMO due to black level alone. Gamers argue that plasma has a burn in risk but I haven't had any problems even playing all day with the HUD. The IR washes out after a few minutes of normal TV watching.

4) if i get a 42 inch Panny, would i notice the difference between 1080P and 720P?

Depends how close you sit.

I don't think the price < $1000 is unreasonable for 46" 1080p. Maybe it will not happen as soon as I may think but I'm willing to bet much sooner than later.

BTW, I think I've seen the 42" 1080p for around $800 at times.

So would I, because later...it looks like we're in for an INCREASE in pricing across the board according to Max.

I don't doubt it, probably the -80U. Snatch it up while you can.

I was gonna...but the delivery company fudged my delivery schedule, so I canceled and went down to bestbuy.

...all they had in stock was a 50" 720p PX80U. So I took it.

Im extremely pleased! ...plus it went on sale so I made them 30 day price guarantee it!

I have the 42 inch Viera PZ80U. It's a nice tv. I bought it for 1043 after taxes at Circuit City. But you can find it cheaper elsewhere. Anyways, I prefer LCDs. But if you like plasmas, go with either or on the Viera models. 850,800, or 80
