Need help picking out a new subwoofer in my 5.1 setup

So I need to replace my current sub woofer, as it is just clicking now and not producing any bass. I have asked on AVS, but they seem to be recommending some really expensive stuff rather than stay on budget so I thought that I would ask here.


What I Have Now:

It started when I bought a Sony STR-DG510 5.1 receiver on Black Friday '07 from Best Buy, which I had originally hooked up some old HTiB speakers I had laying around. I replaced this in 2013 with a Yamaha RXV773 WABL. Speaker wise, back in 2008 I bought a JBL Venue Series SUB12 12-Inch 500-Watt Sub woofer . It has been a good little subwoofer, but I need to replace it now that it has stopped working. If it makes any difference, surround wise, I have a Polk CS1 center channel, some decent 3 way mountable speakers to use as the rear surround speakers, and a pair of Polk Monitor 60's for my front left and right speakers.


I do have small kids, and I don't always crank up the bass anymore, but it would be nice to be able to crank it up for the occasional grown up films.


I have a budget for around $400 or less.

Look here to see if they have something within your budget..

Their cheapest sub, the LV12 starts at $539. I have teh LV12R which is listed at $549. I know its over your budget but they are leagues better than what you are currently looking at. I have th3 LV12-R and its soo much better than my PSB Subsonic5 .

I ended up buying this today:

Klipsch R-120SW Subwoofer. 400W 12" subwoofer, and it seems to have some great reviews. I will let you guys know what I think of it when it comes in next week.

It just came in today, and so far, I am quite impressed with it. I still need to do some adjusting, but so far, it really adds a great rich bass sound to our TV viewing that we were missing for quite some time.
