Default Sopranos different size boxes

Season one is a different design and shorter box than season six part I and II which came out long before season one. are they going to re-release season siz as a single box after two, three, four, five is out? They did this on Star Trek series. The first two seasons boxes are thicker than season three which is something I can live with. I guess no one really cares about keeping these seasons uniform

Marketing departments just do not care about packaging differences. They are always most concerned about the latest release, and maximizing sales of it. It is likely the studio's retail partners complained about the bulky packaging, and so it was re-designed. What should happen is the studio goes back and reissue the original sets in the new packaging, but budget and staff cuts have pushed issues like this off the radar.

On my Six Feet Under (DVD) box sets, the season 1 one is huge and the rest aren't too big....I tend to ignore it if isn't that bad.

I'd rather get seasons 2-5 released on blu than get season 6 in a different box.

The one that bugs me is lost. I have the first 4 seasons in their nice plastic uniform cases and then season 5 shows up and its a super tall cardboard case. Why would they do such a thing?

I like the season 6 boxes with the magnetic seal. The season 1 box is kind of pathetic, but it's the show I like to watch, not the boxes. Bring on seasons 2-5. I'll buy 'em regardless of the box.

Any news on season 2-5 release? At this rate it'll be years before there's a complete series boxset, and I don't want to get them separately...

I was going to get season one , season six part I and part II on HBO 50% off sale in december but figured there should be a box set soon. I have all available HBO blu-rays now except Sopranos.

They allready have been, atleast Amazon is showing the new style boxes.

Also, you should email HBO and ask for replacement cases, Universal is doing it for Battlestar, so its worth a shot :P

Are you sure you didn't accidentally get Season 5 on DVD?? On BD, Season 5 of Lost comes in the exact same size plastic 5-disc Vortex style case as Season 4 did....

The Season 1 box was significantly taller than a standard DVD box, and wouldn't even fit in my DVD shelving. I really don't know why the companies do these stupid things. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who was annoyed about that one.

It definitely can be annoying, but the marketing department only cares about the package sticking out at retail, hoping to catch some impulse buys. They are hoping to attract the marginal purchases, where the consumer did not intend on picking up the set in the first place. Die-hard fans will buy a season or set no matter how bad or ludicrous the packaging looks.

That's the Dharma Orientation Kit (what Polanski posted). But it wasn't a BB exclusive. Every retailer had/has it (Walmart, Target, BB, etc.). Locally, BB is the only one that has some left, but I have seen it at the other two.

Season 5 was released normally, and in this special edition "kit" because the Dharma Initiative was so heavily involved in Season 5. You can find the normal version much easier, at any retailer. And for that normal version, BB did have an exclusive version which came with a Dhama luggage tag, a bonus DVD with extra features, and a slipcover that goes over the regular slipcover.

All seasons, including Dharma Kit:

BB exclusive of regular S5:

LOST does have a problem when it comes to individual seasons though. Since Season 3 was the first ABC TV show to come out on Blu-ray, they made a nice slipbox for it. That slipbox/slipcase alone is what makes it out-of-place compared to the other seasons. The other seasons simply use slipcovers.
