So my wife asked to put the Blu Ray Player in the bedroom, we had a 200 dollar nice wifi built in Samsung (forget the model). she put it on the floor and my 100 pound dog decided to step on it, breaking it. Anyways, we put our old one in there for the time being and I bought a new one for my main room. I decided to take a chance on a cheaper BD player as the technology is much farther along than it was 2 years ago. On sale at Best Buy for 80 bucks, I bought the Samsung BD-E5300 player. So far, I'm impressed with it. No problems, quick loading time AND the controller has a Pandora and Netflix button on it. Only thing I don't like about it so far is a built in power cord (for some reason I don't like those) and the counter on it goes minutes and seconds until it hits an hour, then it's just hour and minutes, no seconds.
Has anyone else had good experiences with this...or bad? |

BD-E5300 is perfect for me. I don't stream movies via the internet so I can't comment on how well it streams. I just use the player for my current collection of DVDs and Blu-Rays and it plays them all just fine. The Blu-Ray player upscale so good that it makes my DVDs almost look like Blu-Ray discs. I also like the remote because it can control your TV's volume and source. There is nothing wrong with this Blu-Ray player, it's pretty basic and that's all I need to play my DVD's and Blu Ray discs. It has full screen mode too, so just in case you have some movies that won't fit your screen.

I was looking for a choosing a blu-ray player type thread, but couldn't find one. So i thought it might be appropriate to ask the question here. I've gotten on board the blu-ray technology train in 2009. I had a lot of trouble picking the right player because of compatibility issues, features, what I actually would use, and would just play with to find out about, and then no longer use. My first player was the panasonic DMP-BD601k in 2009, it was a basic profile 2.0 player with some internet features and a solid disc player. Then I upgraded to the panasonic DMP-BD85 in 2010, to try netflix streaming. As a secondary I bought the sony BDP-S570 to have one in the bedroom, and for the media file support on local storage. I've tried features such as DLNA, and have found, I don't use them enough toi make the feature worth the cost, I also found that after a while, I don't even stream from services like netflix like i did at first, because I found if i like content, i'd just buy the disc anyway. I will not invest in a 3D setup until i'm sure i won't suffer effects from 3D due to the brain damage I suffered as a baby. Also I have not invested in a full AVR setup as i live in an apartment So i have settled on a soundbar for the living room with virtual surround, and the option to connect a powered sub if i want to buy one. Fast forward to 2012, last month. I decided to upgrade the two 2010 models to take advantage of some additional features i was looking for such as ntfs support for USB drives, so i wouldn't be stuck with fat32, and a player with vudu for the bedroom (if i ever wanted to use my service again) For the bedroom i upgraded to the sony BDP-S590 which gave me the added features i wanted, but because it's sony, i had to buy a player with 3D abilities to get the other support I wanted. For the Living Room, I decided on the panasonic DMP-BD871P-K as an upgrade to the 85. I needed a new player out there with built in wifi since i had sold the dongle to the 85 as i never used it, and at the time i had cable, so it was easy to hardwire, and do wireless at the same time. Now I've switched to verizon for 4G which is all wireless and hard to impossible to share to a good hard wired setup. Which also why streaming isn't as big now because of the cap that goes with cell data plans. Based on this information Do you think i made good choices on players for the main needs of: DVD/BD playback Some media playback from usb (main format used h.264, mp4) and some basic internet features like firmware updates, and services like netflix vudu and cinema now, if i want to stream? I'm not so big on buy a loaded player to replace a computer type person. I just wanted the most common tasks that worked well in a decently priced unti. I did my playing around when i first tried bd players and found out what i liked as a toy, and got tired of, to what i actually used on a daily basis. This made it easier to pick units that suit my needs I think. Any feedback would help though from people in similar situations. Oh, and i don't have huge tvs the largest is a 42" plasma by panasonic, and the sony in the bedroom is 32" . Both are 1080p compatible with 24p output compatibility. I've found most players look alike Last edited by MacinMan; 07-06-2012 at 03:43 PM. |
