Sega has announced the Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection, which is heading to the PS3 in early 2009. The collection will contain over 40 classic Sega titles from the Mega Drive and Master System. Highlights include many Sonic titles, Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Shining Force and many others. We've placed the full list of games after the break for your perusal.

While many of you will have already played these games (many times), be it on the Gamecube, PSP, PS2 or on the original consoles, the Ultimate Collection will apparently output all titles at 720p. We're not sure exactly how these old games will look in high definition, but this will be the largest collection of Sega titles ever released together. For those of you that missed many of these titles throughout the years, this is the perfect opportunity to try some Sega classics for the first time.

I read this, but I decided not to post about it. Well fudge yeah, Streets of Rage 1-3. Thats worth the admission price alone. Even though I already have the majority of these games on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis Collection on my PSP, Streets of Rage won me over for this. There better be online play too.

I'm in; Initially I;d have preferred a Genesis Collection Volume 2 on the PS2, but this 720p output makes PS3 more appealing. I'd have also preferred a disc over a PSN game, but I'll take it.

I'd been wanting them to revive Streets of Rage and Shining games in a compilation; now we get one!.

Meh.

I'd pay about $1 - $3 for the lot of them. But if it's $15+ it's not worth it IMHO.

Reliving Phantasy Star might be worth a few bucks.

are all these titles going to be availble through 1 purchase, or are they each sold separately?

in any case. something is going on at SEGA. first, the unexpectedly breathtaking release of Valkyria Chronicles, and now this...

i mean, i still have my Genesis and the majority of these games, but that's still ****en rad.

That's sad.

That's almost as bad as paying $3+ for a LBP in-game "rare" t-shirt.

I don't think its that bad. I mean, look how much you're getting the classic games on XBL or the Virtual Console. You pay about 1,000 Wii points for some of them. I think the price is perfect.

I was hoping for 19.99, thats what the games I highlighted would be worth to me in total, the other games are worth nothing to me, including streets of rage alongside its many sequals and they can keep the Golden Axes and splatterhouse..

Shining Force was the only reason I regretted having a snes over a genesis..

If I could select frelly from there librarys I could make a bundle worth the 29.99...

They had some cool games but um yeah ill shut up now.

You don't justify bad pricing by pointing to other bad pricing.

Paying basically $10+ for a 23-year-old game (Super Mario Bros) is sad.

I'd rather see these games being sold for $1 each, then I could choose what I want.

They just pack garbage together to boost numbers....ooo look at all these games for $30. But, you only want a couple. It's like the old days of buying music CD and paying $15+ and only wanting 1-2 songs.

Oh well.

So what you're saying is that even though you want to choose whatever title you want, you still want to pay 25¢ more than each game is asking for. Well you do have a point on choosing what you want in the bundle rather than having a whole bunch shoved down your throat. Still, if you're on the cheap side of things, you can still get 40 great games priced approximately 75¢ each.

How are those the old day, if I wanted 1 to 2 songs I buy the cd, the old way was back in my moms day she called these strange things called singles that had 1 sometimes 2 songs on the entire album.. she called that the golden days.

I still remeber listening to my first record, it was shiny black disc that came in my ghost buster cereal box.. and it played ghostbusters.
