Default Terminator Salvation discrepancy?

In the trailer, John Conner shoots what appears to be either a T-600 or T-800 at point blank range with an M-4? Based on the previous Terminator movies wouldn't this be pointless?

Maybe the economy hurt the terminators as well and they had to use cheap metals?

it could be an older model (though i do think it was a 600) that the metal is not quite as strong/refined on?
or he was doing it just to be safe or w/e
cuz i mean, its laying on the ground dead
then he crushes the neck with a chopper
then shoots it

Just to be sure.

It's not paranoia if strange metal killers are sent back in time to try to kill you before you were born.

Hmm, the endo is already out of action, being crushed by the copter, and Connor make sure, by firing a piercing armor round in his head, that he is out of commission for good.

Seems as if he's carrying that M-4 throughout the movie. What happened to plasma rifles? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

This is the early beginnings of the war, the t-600s are probably cheap and plasmas rifles not developed yet. I think we will only briefly see the t800s
