Problems with sound on blue ray player. - Blu-ray Forum

I bought a Sony BDP - S350 Blue Ray player this weekend and hooked it up with my surround sound system (Panasonic SC-PT960). While the picture looks great, the sound is very bad. I have 6 movies total, and only 1 (Top Gun) actually has great sound, the others i have to crank up to 50 to get a decent sound, and even then it still sounds bad.

Anybody have any idea why this is happening? I did notice on the back of Top Gun it was listed as DTS where as the other movies were not, does this make any difference?

Also my setup is HDMI from the tuner to TV, then HDMI cable from Blue Ray to TV, and Optical Cable from Blue ray to Tuner. Any help would be appreciated.

As a starting point, could you share the name of the other discs so we could see what kind of tracks were available?

Since you must use optical with your htib, you will not be getting HD audio, just legacy dts and dolby. That being said, make sure that the optical setting in the Blu-ray player is set to bitstream and all DRC settings are turned off in both the player and the htib.

Not sure, i haven't touched anything on it. So however it came is what settings its on. One thing i did notice is on the Top Gun movie it gave me 2 options for Audio through the remote contol, the 2nd option switched it to where it sounded great. All the other disks there was only 1 option and sounded like crap.

The settings can make a huge difference. It will be hard to give you much help without knowing the settings.
