I thought they delayed its release until April. I've been waiting for this one to come out.

I love the Pannys for their sound. They have the best, loudest, most dynamic sound of any DVD or Blu-Ray brand that I''ve owned. Every Sony I've had, for instance, I've had to turn up the volume level on my Receiver almost all the way to be able to hear dialogue in a movie. With the Panny, the same volume level would blow the windows out of my house.........which is good! They have a great picture, but sound is even more important to me.

I was in Best Buy earlier and they had 2 large stacks of these. At least 20 or so. Glad these are out. I may pick one up soon. I hope another 10% off reward zone coupon gets released in the near future.

If you bitstream, that change nothing because the player does nothing to the signal. If you're decoding, it's another story..

I picked one up yesterday and so far the picture and sound seem very good. Just need to get it hooked up to the internet and see how that performs.

You'll need a receiver that is HDMI compatible and TRUEHD/DTS HD compatible. The Onkyo 606 seems to be a popular choice in the US. That is if you want the full HD audio. If you don't, just need a optical cable and a normal DTS/DD reciever.

The stepup model has a Wifi Antenna built in and Analog Out for older receiver with Analog Ins

Thanks

I might have to wait for the Panasonic dmp 80 to come to Best Buy store too. I have an older receiver (normal DTS/DD reciever) with analog out and no hdmi on it. Will i be able to get the full HD audio when the Panasonic dmp 80 comes?

If you have 5.1 ANALOG INS yes, if you don't NO.

The BB sales guy told me they weren't on the web yet....I noticed the same thing when they released the Samsung DB-P1600 a few weeks ago. So far mine is working very well and even got the internet hooked up. Be warned though.... the only Viera Cast content that seems to be available right now is YouTube, Bloomberg and Picasa. According to the reports from CES 2009 the players and TV's with Viera Cast are also suppose to support Amazon VOD, unfortunately no such icon exists but maybe on a future update? If it's not going to have that then I think its networking feature is pretty worthless.

I currently use a Popcorn Hour box that already gets YouTube, Picasa and Bloomberg plus much more so the networking feature is not of much use (although I admit that the Amazon VOD would be a nice addition, especially if it accesses the new HD service they are launching)

Just checked on Panasonic's site and it said this about Viera Cast, so there may be hope

The Viera Cast built-in web menu self-updates new streaming content as it becomes available.

so this player doesnt output decoded true hd and dts ma as pcm over hdmi? it probably does so at the very least a receiver that can output pcm audio from hdmi.
