Talking Greatly consistent movie franchises and trilogies

I've finally been able to see Toy Story 3, since it only came out in the UK today, and I was utterly amazed at how good it was, I'm not saying I was expecting it to be bad because you can't if it's coming from Pixar, but it's not everyday you come across a trilogy or franchise where all the films are as brilliant as each other or start off great and get even better, and this is what promted me to start this thread about which movie trilogies and franchises out there are greatly consistent throughout; because even some of the most highly accalimed franchises in cinema history have one or two down points, such as the original Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies; with Star Wars it would be Return of the Jedi and with Indiana Jones it would be The Temple of Doom. So I was just curious to see which movie trilogies and franchises out there where you think all the films are as great as each other, and there isn't a single bad movie in it.

There is one rule to this thread however, and that is this:-
  • You can only include a trilogy or franchise if it is complete, because this means you can give a proper judgement on how good it is overall. So don't go including franchises such as Iron Man or the rebooted Batman series, because they've yet to be completed and so you can only make predictions on what the upcoming film is going to be like, not the whole series. I know that in recent years studios have started to do sequels to franchises that apparently ended quite a while ago, but if there is currently no sign of a new sequel coming up, then you can include it.

I understand everyone will have a different view on what they think is great and what is not, but I just thought it'd be a good idea to really see which movie franchises are brilliant throughout, or already start out great and just get better.

So, I'll naturally start off by adding in the Toy Story Trilogy.

Die Hard franchise has been for the most part top notch. Live Free wasn't quite as good as the first 3 but in comparison to most action movies was still pretty damn good.

SORRY, I put INCONSISTENT ones.

The Matrix. I tell most people don't bother with the last two unless you are big scifi geek or want to be let down.

Spider-Man. 3 flat out sucked. 2 while entertaining, is very inconsistent if you pay close attention.

Batman Anthology. I don't think we even need to talk about the Schumacker films.

The Transporter. 2 and 3 just could never find the same feeling of the first one.

Right now I would have to go with Lord of the Rings.

Of course that may change once Batman 3 is released.

All of them actually.

Maybe misunderstood the point of the thread?

Bingo. All 3 movies high quality and consistent; can't think of any other series that have reached that level. Godfather I and II were in that category, but the third movie was not as good.

You could be right Q!, perhaps he misread the title and thought it said "inconsistent", rather than "consistent".

As far as all being equal...nah... Some are better than others. Toy Story 2 is better than 1, but they are both awesome.

All awesome:
Bourne
Lethal Weapon (none of them are Oscar gold, but all the same level of fun)
Ice Age
Star Wars (Original Trilogy) Need them all.
Lord of the Rings

LOTR. Why do you think every poll has 33/33/33 for which film is your favorite???

That's why in the first post I said that the movie franchise(s) is/are all equal or start out great and just get better.

I thought Die Hard 1 and 4 were the best, 2 is the weakest, and 3 is a bit better.

May want to edit that in.

You said, "as brilliant as" and "as great as" which means they are equal in quality.

Infernal Affairs Trilogy

And I can't believe no one said Rocky yet. I think all six films are more or less consistent with each other.

What about thematic trilogies by the same director? Or does this pertain only to actual trilogies?

Done.

I thought I put that in because I remember wanting to put it in. It seems I just forgot.

No it can be any trilogy or franchise, regardless of who directed it. My contribution was Toy Story, where the first two were direct by John Lasseter and the third was directed by Lee Unkrich, so you can include anything provided the trilogy or franchise is over, it doesn't have to be directed by the same person.

Rocky
1 is awesome
2 is great
6 is great
3 is ok
5 is ok
4 is an 80's music video that got to be too long. But does have some great lines from Dolph.
