I know they have 7.1 surround sound, would there be any benifit to having 2 discreat bass channels? I only ask this because a lot of people seem to have more than one bass.
I am torn whether 2 channels discreat bass would help, or not? Last edited by Canada; 04-05-2009 at 09:49 PM. |

I don't think there would be much benefit to adding a second discreet bass chanel, as LFE is omnidirectional. You're not supposed to know which direction it's coming from. It's the mid and high portions of the boom that give you the positional information, and they aren't produced by the sub.

Two or more subwoofers are intended mainly to clear out any dead zones in your listening area where standing waves create loss of LFE waves, resulting in less bass from one location to another. Adding another subwoofer evens this out, resulting in more even bass around your seating.
I just added another subwoofer because I noticed the difference in LFE between my main seating position and that of my visitors. |

Exactly. The fact that bass is so omnidirectional it would never make a difference. Except to your neighbors.

![]() Standing waves, dead spots, bass response throughout the room- all of these can be fixed with a second subwoofer. If you have certain seating areas that don't get as much (or too much) bass, or certain frequencies seem muddy or lost, moving the sub(s) around and adding a second can definitely help. The point here isn't to go louder- it's to even out the response and the quality. |

What Sub are you using Canada?
If you have dead spots, as others have stated, then the addition of a second sub will benefit you..... (if placed properly) To others however.... Of course like everything else, more isn't always better in every situation.... My buddy has a cheap HTIB and the box they try to pass off as a subwoofer is so rattly and crappy sounding.... adding another would add more rattling and crappy "noise" ![]() |
