Default Info on making a DIY Speaker Stand for audio greatness

Hello. As the title implies. My couch is some Ashley dual chair with the box lid separating the chairs to hold your remote and stuff. The chair reclines all the way back as well. I have measurements of all I need.

First, correct me if I am wrong. I recall reading posts about people saying stand up, where your head is (in my case 70") mount your speakers. That is only for wall mounting, correct? As that would not be ideal to make a stand that high?

Second, I have two measurements. First one is me sitting in the chair erect and normal at 44". Second, is when the chair is reclined all the way down at 34".

Third, my surrounds are Revel S-12 (http://www.revelspeakers.com/Products/Details/54#specs) that I measured at 11 3/4" high but since they are di/bi/direct setting and tough to line up the tweeters I will split it at 5 7/8"

So how big should I make my stand? Should I split the 44" and 34" and use 39" as a happy medium? Minus the 5 7/8" on the speaker, should my stands be 38 1/8" [@44" Sit] or 33 1/8" [@39" medium] or 28 1/8" [@34" Reclined]?

Off subject as I CANNOT find a single answer to this question. How far back should my rear surrounds (the 6, 7 channel) speakers be from my couch? Should the stand I make for my sides be the same as the rears??

Any help would be appreciated!
