Default Bourne Trilogy only DTS?

Hi, I'm desperate to watch the Bourne Trilogy in HD but the only audio options I've seen is DTS-HD, I can only decode Dolby sound right now, are there any versions of this blu ray that play in Dolby 5.1?

Being a Blu-Ray I'd thought they be able to get both DTS and Dolby.

Thanks

There's no 'Standart' of sound on Blu-ray like DVD. they can use whatever they want.(on DVD it's mandatory to have a DD track to be compliant)

Your only solution would be to tell the player to decode in Stereo (by choosing PCM in the setup) or upgrade your receiver

You should just get the core 5.1 DTS track. I can't decode HD audio tracks either and all my Blu play fine at 5.1 (although not at the high bitrate obviously).

Most older BD players & all the newest models are capable of decoding DTS audio and sending it as PCM to a receiver. This means that you can still enjoy the audio from the film.

I understand I can still get PCM but I would like the surround sound experience on these films. I can't see myself buying a new sound system in the near future. I only have a PS3, I didn't think it could decode DTS-HD.
Unfortunatley I have a cheap sound system that doesn't even decode DTS sound let alone HD so I'd be stuck with 2.1 audio.

Is there really no Dolbly 5.1 on the blu-ray?

Are you using an optical cable from the PS3 to the receiver? If so, select linear PCM.

Yep, set it to linear PCM and you will get PCM 2.0 which on most receivers will be 2.0 Pro-logic Surround sound.

just to be clear, if you do use the 2.0 pcm, the receiver will give you pro-logic, not 5.1.

There are mandatory audio standards on Blu-ray:

PCM up to 7.1
Dolby Digital up to 5.1
DTS up to 5.1

Any BD disc that has at least one of these formats is compliant.

Optional formats are:

Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 only
Dolby TrueHD up to 7.1
DTS-HD up to 7.1
DTS-HD Master Audio up to 7.1

The Dolby and DTS HD formats will have core tracks that will make the disc compliant.

In the case of the Bourne films (or any Universal or Fox disc for that matter) the DTS-HD Master Audio has a DTS core track that can be decoded on any BD player to analog or PCM, either 5.1 or stereo.

There are still some receivers (such as yours) and PCs (Media Centers) that don't decode DTS, and most TVs only accept PCM or DD through HDMI.

Some FOX discs address this by providing DD tracks.

Sure, why not.

People are getting away from proper spelling more and more. I'm even seeing online articles on websites with things like "loose" for "lose" or adding letters to words like "comming" or others. It's a bad habit of this generation I guess.

I mean it could have at least been followed by a reply to the topic. I mean I can see if the poster was coming off as a jerk or smart ass and the grammar error was pointed out to bring them back to earth...

That wasn't the case though.

You didn't space between a few of your words and it bugged me a little... should I have brought that to your attention publicly?

So you can afford a PS3 but not a new $150 HTiB? 99.9% of all A/V receivers these days decode basic DTS and if they don't they're a rip-off and shouldn't be purchased in the first place.

This whole thread is a complete non-issue.

ALL bluray players have mandatory DTS and DD internal decoding, which means that even if you have an ultra oldschool reciever that at least has optical you can still get full 5.1 sound if you set your bluray player to PCM.

Or the result of today's public school system.

maybe the ps3 is worth the money to him and a $200 reciever isn't . just because you can afford something doesn't mean you have to buy it or want. This whole "if you can afford a. you should be able to afford b. " logic is flawed.

With your equipment this would be the best choice:

1. Set the PS3 to Bitstream for Digital Out (Optical) under Video Settings.

2. Go to the Sound Ouput and choose Digital Out (Optical).

3. Two PCM 2.0 options are selectd by default. Select Dolby Digital 5.1

Now whenever you listen to a Dolby TrueHD track, you will get the lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track. This is usually at 640kbs but can be 448kbs or lower.

When you select the DTS track, the PS3 will decode the track and send it out as PCM 2.0. Your receiver will then apply Pro-Logic decoding and you will get 2.0 surround sound. If you have a receiver capable of Pro-Logic II decoding then it will be processed as 5.1 sound.

There will be others who want to chime in and say Linear PCM instead of Bitstream but this should work out best for you.

I disagree- PCM will give him true 5.1 sound instead of matrixed/"fake" 5.1 from a 2.0 signal. There's no reason to matrix out a stereo signal if you can get the 5.1 true track.
