Default Hello :)

Hello guys, i have been lurking around the forums here for a few weeks now amazed by peoples HT's and general wisdom in regards to everything to do with them. So i just thought id join up and say hi.

I just have a couple of questions and if anyone could help me out id be very grateful.

Ok firstly. I live in Northern Ireland and i was wondering if anyone knows any good sites for speakers and amps and the rest etc that accept paypal payments? I dont have a credit card as i wouldnt trust myself with one.

Secondly, If i was to buy equipment from America (say good equipment but a cheaper retailer) and have it posted here would it still work ok? obviously id have to change the power cable for my plug sockets but is there anything else that would be a factor? When i say equipment i mean just speakers, sub woofers and maybe an amp. I know its a real newbie question but thats why im in this section

I have tried a few searches and cant really find anything in regards to my questions.

Kind regards
Stewart

Vip3rni - I can't suggest anything about where to buy via paypal or damage in shipment, but your power is radically different so you would want to be extremely careful in that area. You have something like 230V at 50HZ and in North America we are using 120V at 60HZ. Some equipment may have a 120/240 switch but that difference in HZ may cause problems such as overheating in the power supply, etc.

I am not sure it would be cost effective importing heavy electronics from America in your situation. Blu-rays maybe since they weigh so little but speakers and amps and subs are heavy (at least the good ones).

Welcome! if you download the PayPal plugin you can use it to generate a secure credit card number for your PayPal account to use with any online retailer, either a one-time use, or a multiple time use card number. I am using the plug-in with Firefox as well.

Welcome Vip3rni! You picked a great forum to join!

Regarding equipment, I would personally recommend that you buy locally, UK or EEC because of the power/hz issues as mentioned previously. Besides, there are great equipment manufacturers on your side of the Atlantic.

Also, be careful when ordering BD's as well..you know, the Region coding thing.

As far as advice, opinion and cameraderie....swim on over!

John

in terms of not being able to use a credit card, check out virtual visa! check out https://www.3vcash.com/

I dont have a credit card either, but use this to buy online from any store, buy flights - works for everything! You just "top up" like buying phone credit, then you use that amount anywhere you want online. A visa number is generated for you when you top up.. read through the webpage, its dead easy!

Might be going to that match too - a win could seal our Champions League place

Thats a great site, its a shame though that it wont let you go over £200 at a time. Do you think it would be possible to buy say 3 or 4 vouchers at £200 each and then buy speakers etc from websites but phoning them and telling them what it is your using to pay and that there will be 3-4 different credit card numbers etc without them thinking its some sort of fraud lol?

Say you buy a £200 voucher, do you have to spend the £200 in one go or can you reuse it until the 200 is used up?

Liverpool vs villa will be a great match, all the pundits etc are saying this season it will be between pool ,chelsea and united etc etc but i think villa have just as good a chance as any and without all the attention and added extra pressure it brings i think yous are in a great position to go for it.

I havent used a 3v card in a while. It is a shame about the max limit. If you buy £200 you just keep using the visa number that was generated for you until it is gone! when its finished, you just throw away your voucher! It useless then, so dont worry about someone finding it. When you buy a visa voucher in a shop you get handed a receipt like piece of paper with the generated 16 digit visa number on it for you. Then the expiry date and cvv2 number and sent separately to your mobile phone - to keep it secure! Each time you top up, you get a new visa number. If you suddenly realise that the amount you have topped up isnt enough you can buy a another amount and merge the two (once you dont go over the max limit i think).

Regarding a store accepting multiple visa numbers on the one purchase it guess its up to them! But dont try and explain what you have - dont think its available world wide. Just say you have a few visa cards and would like an amount taken from each.

Its great otherwise, works a treat and very safe!

I guess we are in with a shout - only a point behind Chelsea and they are coming to Villa Park at the end of next month! Should be an interesting run in!

Hello there Vip3rni, nice to meet you Good to see another follower of the one true team!!

Garland, you may be misguided in your choice of club but I must admit to having some affection for the Villans due to a bunch of relatives in the Midlands (Bromsgrove to be precise) and a strange liking for Martin O'Neill.

Anyone that can wind up Arsene Wenger is alright in my book!!!

yep, not good! Gabby and Young will score - Villa to win 2-1!

I was in Newry a couple of times before xmas. My girlfriend got her olf man a 40" Samsung - the price difference compared to down south was criminal!!! She saved about 300 euro!

So what blu rays will kick off your spending spree??
