Default TERMINATOR 5 to go [cue huey lewis music] Back in Time!!

Quote:
We know there's going to be a "Terminator 5" (and "Terminator 6"). We know Robert Patrick may appear in it (playing the chap that created the T-1000, the character Patrick played in 1991s "Terminator 2 : Judgment Day"). And we know it'll involve killer robots (like duh!) - but McG, who'll produce and likely direct the next instalment, has been pretty tight-lipped on story details for the next (and so he should - "Terminator Salvation" isn't even out yet; no need to get ahead of ourselves, is there?). Until today.

The filmmaker tells Filmjournal that in the next film John Connor and crew discover time-travel.

"I strongly suspect the next movie is going to take place in a [pre-Judgment Day] 2011," McG reveals. "John Connor is going to travel back in time and he's going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending Skynet invasion. They've figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity. So you're going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be ****ing awesome. I also think he's going to meet a scientist that's going to look a lot like present-day Robert Patrick [who famously played the T-1000 in Terminator 2], talking about stem-cell research and how we can all live as idealized, younger versions of ourselves."

What do you think about this idea for a storyline? What are some things you'd like to see in T5 if/when it comes out? There are already numerous T4 threads in existence and I'd like to be respectful of those, so please try and keep the discussion in here relating to the above article

I think its shit- I wish they could keep it simple.

We finally get a movie in the future, which I thought was a 3 movies arc and a story that involved the war starting, continuing, and ending. But now he wants to jump back before the war starts, to prep armies in the past for a war in the future?

Isnt that what they have already done- gone back in time to stop the military from developing the stuff in the first place. So now, another crazy SOB is gonna go back again and try to tell them a war is coming and mobilize?

I dont like it. I just want and army of endoskeletons marching across a battlefield tearing shit up.

Think MCG is getting ahead of him self a bit there.

T1 and 2 was excellent, T3 was ok and T4 looks good but if they were going to do a time travel story what yr was Connor return to..

Default Not sure what to think.

At first it sounded like a good idea, but as others noted above, hasn't it already been done? I mean, how many times does one movie franchise use the "time travel" thing to essentially re-do what was tried, right? Again, None of us knows if this is the Final story draft and what changes it may go thru so we "could" try to remain objective and see what happens. Hell, he might not even Direct it by then. Directors change all the time on these big-budget movies ("Superman", others), so maybe this is Idea # 1 of who knows how many ideas get tossed into the pot before T5 comes out in 3-5 years anyway.

Wait. 2011 is pre-Judgment Day? That doesn't sound right. What year did Rise of the Machines take place in? They've covered the whole time travel aspect of the franchise already. I was excited to have a trilogy of films finally set in the future depicting how John Connor saves humanity. Do we really need more time travel? Come on! I mean a few scenes showing Kyle Reese and the various Arnold Terminators leaving for the past would be cool. But that's it!

they are never satisfied until the audience starts throwing excrement at the screen and walks out on a sequel, then they might consider stopping a franchise.

Every movie that has time travel in is fantastic even the third Turtles movies. Anyways, I believe this movie will be successful, I think executives will wait and see how well the public accepts this movies. Also we all know how well directors try to lead the public astray about plots of movies to keep the real story from leaking out.

yes the time travel has been used before, but isn't that just Terminator, I mean, Cameron made time travel work well by keeping it simply, and you pretty much can't leave it out unless you are continuing a story because where is the Terminator gonna come from, not defending but its too early to be up in arms about this already..... looking forward to seeing a badass John Conor(bale) and not some punk kid

I don't like that concept, the whole time-traveling thing was done in the first 3. Now we finally have a movie (or movies) set in the future, they should stay there. Maybe by the sixth one they could actually show the end of the war, if there would be one...

Sounds as bad as the Quantum Leaps they keep taking on the Sarah Connor Chronicles. The basic premise of James Cameron's vision has become ridiculously contrived and diluted.

Squidpuppet- that would be cooler...much further into the future where man has defeated skynet soundly and we have colonized some other worlds or moons and a leftover fragment of skynet recreates itself and takes that planet over....or a revolutionary releases skynet on purpose as a virus to shake things up because the governing body has become a bit too controlling and big brother-like.

the problem is that the planet that skynet takes over is mainly a battle station created to fight any possible alien attacks so skynet has control of 80% of the weapons systems now and the rest of our stations including earth are in danger so Luke....uh, I mean the great great great grand child of John Connor has to find a way to infiltrate the planet and destroy it from within.

I'd prefer the earlier rumor where John dies and they have to replace him with a cyborg since he is too important to the resistance. That would have been cool.

I agree. I thought these three movies were supposed to be the fight in the future. The only time I could see going to the past is at the end of the final one, with Arnold going to the past, thus completing the cycle. That's just me I guess.
