Default For every action, there is an equal/opposite reaction

The HD-DVD buy day had the exact same reaction as it did the first time. Numbers spiked, and overtook BR. Now, for weeks after, the HD-DVD numbers plummet like a rock. People bought the heck out of what few titles they could find interest in, and now they have no money, or don't care to buy the junk that is available.

The buy days hurt more than they help.

Wow... take a look at Eproductwars and see the numbers from Amazon widening in a massive gap.

Well that's to be expected. What the folks in the PS3 forum/site did with their buy days is even better. They alerted other PS3 owners on the site about the buy days and shows them that their PS3s can do so much more, which is not the same as the HD-DVD or the add-on owners.

That's the key in gaining more folks to buy BDs - getting PS3 owners to realize what's inside their machines.

Imagine if the buy day would have corresponded with this current 3 for 2 sale. There's what, 3.5m PS3s out there, maybe 15% have purchased a blu-ray movie - just get that percentage to rise, and the format war is over.

I'm just surprised all the June Universal releases haven't popped up in the sales ranks yet. They love the catalog titles, and this is their month to try and catch up.

I've bought 5 disks in the past 2 days, including the Amazon 3 for 2 thing.

Somebody stop me!

Maybe some special pricing will be the thing to get PS3 owners to buy some movies.

Great idea.

Wait a year. I'm over 100 for BD and almost 200 for HD DVD. It's addictive.

What are you going to do with all of those HD-Dud Discs when the format goes the way of the dodo?

They will be worth money to collectors in about 20 years. Buy some now so you can sell them on ebay later to send your child to college!!!

Well I'm at over 1,300 BDs and 2 HD-DVDs (true -- they were given to me as gifts by someone who mistakenly bought them instead of BDs). I'll keep the 2 HD-DVDs and eventually play them on your HD-DVD player when you're trying to unload it for $15.00 on eBay.

Just kidding about the BDs, I'm at about 60 BDs & counting.

That’s assuming that the worthless player lasts that long without breaking.

You know, that's just horseshit. I would suppose if (and when), TOSHIBA makes a BD player, it will be fine. As it is, my TOSHIBA actually seems to work very well. No glitches, and when I did the firmware update, it was simple and even displayed it's progress, unlike my SONY one.

And I happen to love SONY. I just don't knock something because I disagree with it. Seems like there is almost a need, nay, a desire, to knock the other side is this senseless 'war'; it reminds me of two children arguing on a playground whose father can kick the others father ass.

When it doesn't really matter, at all.

I have never once used a Toshiba device/player that has worked 100% properly. Their HD-DVD players are no exception.

I got a Toshiba DVD upscaler when I first bought my HDTV. It is crap. Waste of money. It actually makes the PQ of the DVDs worse. If this is the kind of product they sell then that is the last purchase from them I ever make. Thank God that my PS3 now upscales DVDs!!!

So you own one, then? And yeah, I would not pick TOSHIBA over SONY, but since they are the only ones making a HD DVD player...I got one.

And it's working fine. Maybe SONY will make a HD player when this war is over.

You know, Toshiba is responsible for a number of Japanese firsts, including radar (1942), the TAC digital computer (1954), transistor television and microwave oven (1959), color video phone (1971), Japanese word processor (1978), MRI system (1982), laptop personal computer (1986), NAND EEPROM (1991), DVD (1995), the Libretto sub-notebook personal computer (1996) and HD-DVD (2005).

When it comes to real world electronic experience, I have had horrible HP Computers, and Dell computers. But that's not to say that everyone who has ever had a HP or Dell has had the same experience as I have. Therefore, to just knock the company based on my experience, is ridiculous.

I think it does matter. HD DVD purchases IS the format war's blood...plain and simple.

But, in the end, it's an individual's choice to help prolong the format war or not.
