Default Contest question.

I wanted to get some feedback to know if monetary contests could be conducted on this site. I don't want to post any ideas I had yet because I dont want to have my account banned. But lets say if someone wanted to participate in a contest where they have to pay $1. All the money would go towards the prize.
If 15 people participated then the prize would be something like a catalog bluray title. If 60 people participate it could be box sets or multiple titles.
Would this be allowed or would it be a violation of forum rules?

I could see something like this not very easily regulated. How would the "house" accept money; and how would we trust this person to hold the money and then distribute it fairly?

I never said I would be the one to collect and distribute. I think that it would most likely have to be one of the mods or an elected person. But if all results and participants were posted then everyone would know how much money was collected and such.

I know, and I didn't mean to imply that. It was a generic and non-directed question. I'm not sure if I'd feel comfortable participating in something like this for that reason -- I don't know who I'd trust to hold my money...although if it's only a dollar...

Well, we're all bluray fanatics here and I'm sure the majority of us aren't millionaires. So if it's possibly to win new blu's for a $1. Who wouldn't want to give it a shot?

I would say No, If you have to pay to enter a contest, Its not a contest at all, Its a form of gambling and may be deemed illegal in certain US states, etc.

I would consider it more like a raffle, but I can see where it would be inappropriate. If one of the mods could close this thread please? Thanks.
