Default Another strange output issue with my blu-ray player

Sorry for all the questions, folks. But sometimes... Just sometimes this place is rich with quality answers.

As I've stated before, I have a Sharp Aquos LCD with it's corresponding BD player. Well, certain BDs (notably 20th Cent Fox releases) during random scenes for no rhyme or reason cut to all black for a split second, then sound and pictures resumes...

Sharp customer service said it's because the BD device needs to be set specifically to 1080p, not AUTO. Well, I did that... and it still does it. Furthermore I thought AUTO will allow it to play at full 1080/24.

interesting, but this can be a number of things, cables, bad handshake, receiver.... you should try to narrow it down. Also, your player might give you the option of running at 1080/24, but will your tv accept it or run it?

Yup, I had the same thing happen to me last week, only it was when watching cable TV. I reseated the cables with no luck, so I swapped the cables around and it went away, so I replaced the cheapo HDMI cables with Blue Jeans cables. Works fine now. Try reseating the cables first, then swapping them around. Worth a shot....

Reseating???

Thing is... It's a quality HDMI cable to begin with. I'm not having any issues with my Toshiba HD player, nor directv... both via HDMI. Just my BD player. I don't remember what brand HDMI I have.

Yeah, sometimes just reseating a cable will work wonders with a funky signal...

Yup, that's the idea. Try swapping the cables around just to see if the problem appears on the other components instead.

But, then again, there are so many variables. Just a process of elimination.

Sorry, yeah... Figured such. I've recently done this when we rearranged our living room.

I'll switch up cables tonight, see if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Okay... This is still a huge issue for me. I've attempted several remedies to no avail, though I had a feeling nothing would work.

It's insanely noticeable with 20th Cent Fox videos. A & V go out for a split second (several times throughout the movie), then everything returns. All other studios do not seem to do this on my player. I called SHARP and they still can't give me a decent answer.

Grrrrr...

Its your cables or the hdmi port, try using that cable that sends the good signal to the HDDVD player since thats confirmed to be a 'good' cable

I am rather new to the HT scene, but have noticed this...the HDMI connection leaves a little bit to be desired,as far as "sturdiness" goes. Mind you,I have had no trouble with it so far,but it seems to me,that there can be a fair amount of weight placed on a connection, simply due to the sheer weight of these cables! Perhaps some kind of "strain relief" would help...a place to "clip" the cable, close to the jack,so the entire weight of the cable would not be pulling on the connection???

Just talked to SHARP (again) during my lunch... They said since the time of my first request about this issue, they have received several calls/emails about Fox discs doing this. They have released a new firmware update for the HP21 model and will update the HP20 model within a week or so. They claim this will correct the issue... Something about Fox's codec... I'm unfamiliar with that term.

If this were the case - Is it possible that the HDMI cable have an issue with just Fox discs?
