Question Stumped on trying to buy a new receiver

Alright so, right now I have a Pioneer PDP-435P that I got back in 2005. It might not show up on google because that's the Japanese name for it (Got it here in Japan) so the US name for it is the Pioneer Elite PRO-1120HD.

When I did get this TV it came with an onboard media receiver, a PDP-R05 to be exact. This receiver that I have is actually what I am looking to replace. Now, my problem is that I can't find a receiver to accompany my TV since my TV is connected to my onboard media receiver through two cables; one is a DVI connection for picture and the other connection sends control signals to and from the panel.

I've scoured the internet for possible receiver options but I can't find one that has both a DVI connection and a connection to send control signals to my TV.

Any suggestions on receivers I can purchase???

Oh and one last thing, if there aren't any receivers around, is it possible to connect my onboard media receiver to a brand new receiver?

not familiar with your kind of tv, but there is no receiver with dvi. you can get a dvi/hdmi cable or adapter that will send the same video through

sorry, can't help you, but curious....

How old is the T.V.? is replacing it an option? Seems like it'll be the weak link for all future upgrades if it is tied to it's own receiver, etc...

Outlaw Audio has a DVI receiver-- the 1070 model -- and a DVI Pre/Pro -- 970 and 990 models.

Not sure if these will work. Is the control connection only so the remote controls both units? That's what it sounds like. If that is the case, you can just pick up a universal remote and it should control both units.

EDIT: I just looked up the TV and media receiver (http://www.ultimateavmag.com/flatpan...ys/405pioneer/) and it seems that the media receiver has all of the "brains" of the TV in it. So, basically, you can bypass the media converter and it will basically be a monitor. The drawback is that you will have TV tuner or additional inputs other than the single DVI. The other thing I saw that was conflicting or not very clear is whether the calibration information (brightness, contrast, etc.) is located on the TV or within the media receiver. WikiAnswers made it sound like they resided in the media receiver while Ultimate AV Mag did not directly answer or disclose where those setting reside.

Hope this helps.

Replacing it sounds like a good idea but I think I'll hold off til 2010 comes around. This tv cost me 650,000 yen when I got it, roughly $6,500.

I'm not sure but I just read that review in ultimatemag too and it does sound like the media receiver acts as the brains of the whole set. I'll try unplugging from the monitor and I'll check if the monitor can run separately.

EDIT:
Btw, I looked into the Outlaw receivers. Thanks for pointing them out!!! I'll do some research on those receivers.

I think you will need the media reciever as an external hdtv tuner. If you know anyone with an hdmi capable receiver, I would suggest you beg them to bring one over to see if you can route the image to the receiver through a dvi-hdmi cable and then to the tv from the receiver with a hdmi-dvi cable. Then, keeping the tuner there for your hdtv and television commands you should be able to get the image through the receiver. I would also attach another player to the reciever to make sure that the remote commands will still work if the video is routed through a different source component.
