I really liked Ip Man and I'm looking for some more recommendations on movies of similar quality. Fearless was good.
I just watched Ong Bak and while I like the more powerful, brutal style of combat and the acrobatic stunts, it was just so low-budget. Fist of Legend, which is supposed to be one of the best martial arts flicks ever, is awesome but the fight scenes are so obviously sped up that it takes away from the impact a bit. Ip Man was the best martial arts movie I've seen in years. It was a really well-made movie with good acting and bad-a$$ fight scenes. Anything else compare to that? Maybe some more Donnie Yen movies? |

SPL, flashpoint, Dragon Tiger Gate. These are all Donnie Yen's most recent works and they're pretty fun to watch. Just a note, Dragon Tiger Gate is base on a HK comic book that's ran for years so the fights are a bit comic bookish but I still enjoyed it. Plus, I use to read the comic's when I was little so it's really nostalgic.

I dunno, I LOVED Ip Man, but didn't care for Flashpoint or Dragon Tiger Gate. The only other recent martial arts movie I found comparable was Fearless.

As far as more modern martial arts flicks this is probably the best one I have seen in a long time.
The Rebel http://www.amazon.com/Rebel-Johnny-N...2910117&sr=8-1 Most Best Buys will carry it. As for the whole SPL(Killzone)/Flash Point genre I think City of Violence is the best. It tends to be really underrated. Then again I think some of these other movies are overrated because of Donnie Yen (not including IP Man). http://www.amazon.com/City-Violence-...2910201&sr=8-1 Last edited by statikcat; 05-21-2009 at 12:53 PM. |

Thanks, I'll check out some of those ones you guys mentioned. I think part of why I like Ip Man and Fearless is the minimal wire work in the fight scenes and stunts. Iron Monkey looked cool from the clips I saw on Youtube but it seemed like it had more wire stuff.
Mikejet is this the District B13 you are talking about: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0414852/ That looks pretty cool in a totally different way from what I was looking for, I'll have to check that out. |

![]() I have Flash Point. It's a different beast than the previous movie I suggested, but it's still fun. The fight Donnie Yen has at the end of the movie is classic. |
