Default Tv Painting

I been thinking of painting the front part around the screen black. I know i'm gonna have to cover important areas like the speaker area and any other vents. It's past warranty, would it be better to leave the front on anyways or attempt to loosen the screws to remove the front? If anyone here has done something like this any info would be nice. My tv is a Sony KV-30HS420. Thanks in advance.

I would highly recommend you remove the body and taking the entire TV apart before doing something like this. It's the only way you could do it right and have the paint go on correctly and evenly. I've never done this particular modification before, but I wouldn't leave the plastic frame attached to the glass screen.

It all really depends on how awesome you want it to look. The fact that you're asking about whether you should remove the frame makes me think you care about the project and want it done right. That's why I suggest taking the sucker apart.

Good luck! Post pics when done, regardless of how you do it.

Only way you will be able to get a smooth enough finish is to spray it. Will probably need a good coat of primer first, otherwise the paint will just flake off eventually.

Go over what you are going to paint with a very fine sand paper, then wipe it all down and get the surface good and clean. Then spray it with a primer made for plastics. After it dries, do another light sanding and cleaning. Then 2 coats of paint.

It's going to be a lot of work man... I would just buy a new TV!

You may also want to lightly sand the surface too, just to make sure any loose particles are gone so you have a nice surface for the paint to stick to. Make sure to thoroughly clean the surface too so that the paint adheres to the surface and not any dirt particles that may come off later.

I would definitely suggest taking the TV apart so you can paint just the piece you want. Then you won't have to mask the screen with tape and won't risk ruining your TV. Definitely apply a primer and sand in between, as davidag02 said.

Thanks for input. I do care somewhat bout how good i want it to look but also mainly just avoid paint getting in places i don't want it. I figure if i did tape a cover over the screen tightly would be good. Also i realize would be a bit of work. I nkow to sand, i work with plastic models and do spray jobs on those. I'd buy a new tv but i don't got the kind of $ to spend at the moment. I think i might take it apart.
