United Kingdom Blu-ray films just because they are Blu-ray

I was just wondering if any one has ever purchased a bluray film which they would not think of getting on dvd? But because its bluray and its quite cheap! You have purchased it.

I have made this mistake a couple of times, I was not happy with the film itself so sold them on ebay! Now I just stick to films that I know I truely love and the ones that I know I will watch over and over again.

Or have you ever sold any because your not happy with the quality of the transfer? I was not happy with the Ronin transfer. Loved the film but for me the transfer was not great!

I only buy films that I actually do like, not just to have as many blu-rays as possible. Otherwise I'm gonna be throwing away a lot of money.

Did it with FULL METAL JACKET and BLACKBEARD when I first bought my PS3. Haven't done it since and won't in future either. I didn't know anything about Blu-ray quality back then and they looked pretty good on my then new Panny Plasma. Then a week later I bought CASINO ROYALE. That's when I knew I erred with my first 2 purchases. LOL! Live and learn, I suppose.

I'm much more selective now and usually ask questions and read reviews on releases of interest, especially on those titles that seem to crop up at Wal-mart or Costco for like $12.99-$15.99.

I'm glad to say that I haven't bought a real DUD since that first purchase. Thank God!

John

Only on occasions when there has been some good movies in a 3 for 2 offer, but there hasn't been a third I really wanted. Picked up Tin Man that way.

I would never see this on any other format than Blu-ray.
It just wouldn't make any sense, the visual impact is a BIG part of the movie.

Did this with In the Name of the King (dreadful movie) and Flags of our Fathers (ok but shoulda watched before I bought). Both blind buys in my frenzied first week of owning a blu-ray player, and struggling for choices. Fortunately the blu library has rapidly expanded to save me from such silly decisions again.

Most of my Blu-ray purchases are just because they are on Blu-ray... I'd never buy them on regular DVD's!

I think i went through a bluray frenzy in the begining. But i have calmed down alot. The thing I have really noticed with bluray films. It's like watching each film, like its for the first time.

And Im only watching these films on a 24" high def, widescreen pc monitor. It is true to get the best experience you need a minimum of 37" on a TV. But for now im happy watching them on my PC. Some of the movies that have blown me away are the mummy, the mumy returns and the rock. Zulu was also an exceptional transfer for the age of the film. Im currently enjoying the james bond films too, especially the sean connery ones.

Lets hope bluray is here to stay for a little longer then dvd

You mean like Akira Blu-Ray that had all the extras removed from the DvD version.

Well...I got my PS3 at the end of April and already owned 5 Blu-Rays!

No, before buying my movies on Blu-Ray and rebuying the ones I already owned on DvD, I search for the reviews.

It seems a lot of Blu-Ray moves remake from DvD always have extra contents taken off:/

That's the main reason I buy DvD's, to rewatch them again without getting bored. A lot of people just keep buying movies without watching them ever again.

I will buy a movie I like unless it has less than 3 stars for PQ. The 3 star minimum requirement is because thats where my eye's start to see a difference.

My copy of FMJ is the re-released version and is pristine to my eye's.

Your thinking is not entirely concrete though. Casino Royale is almost a brand new movie and hardly any other releases are as good as it.

I also only buy bluray films if they have been reviewed on sites like bluray.com. I also compare each review to other bluray review sites. Like yourself I tend to go for a mimum of 3 out of 5.

The kevin costner bluray film got a pretty poor review on bluray.com, in regards to its video transfer. See now i love that film. Im just in doubt about picking it up now. Decisions Decisions...

If an average 'popcorn movie' comes out on Blu-Ray with amazing PQ & AQ, then I will buy it just for that alone. Not if it was a truly terrible film though.

Although they are excellent films I probably wouldn't have bought some of the Pixar stuff I have if they were limited to DVD (Wall-E, Ratatouille, etc)

Baraka, Final Fantasy and the Underworld Trilogy are a few more titles that wouldn't have made my collection either I reckon.

I've been really good with my purchases so far....until I bought RoBoCop, it was £10 in HMV, skimmed through it after I read poor PQ reviews and regretted it.

Then Sunday with a hangover I put it on and really enjoyed it after all these years. Not so bad after all BUT I'll be more carefull now though.
