Disney is taking a crack at Dragon Ball according to WeGotThisCovered (I know, I know)

Not every character in Dragon Ball is Asian, God dammit. I hate the lack of common sense here. It's the same BS with Cowboy Bebop. Clearly, Spike is Jewish heritage, but they cast a Korean guy instead. What's next, the entire cast of a live action Hellsing will be all Asian as well?

I honestly don't know if this will work. If they actually try to do the original Dragon Ball again, I can see that it working if they actually make it an adventure comedy like the source material (make it like Spielberg's Tintin or something, in terms of balancing adventure action and comedy). However, if they try to do Z instead, I honestly don't know how that will work. There's only so much you can get in a two hour movie.

I think Disney would want DBZ and not the original Dragon Ball. It would obviously make more sense to start with Dragon Ball though. Even Funimation ignores the original. DBZ has had like 3 different Blu-ray releases and DB is still DVD only. Same with Kai and Super, they'll receive a ton of re-releases before DB gets its first Blu-ray over here in North America.

We Got This Covered "In Total Lies for Clickbait" is probably making stuff up. Usually pull stuff out their behind.
A live action Dragonball Z with an all Asian cast could hold a very low international appeal imo. The reason is right there in the source material. Whilst Japan gave us the original animes, let's not kid ourselves at all. The main roster is very much Caucasian for the most part in looks. In fact there's quite a lot of anime titles that also follow that look. I would have preferred they try to cast as wide a net as possible and get the right cast first and foremost rather than restrict it to just Asian and East Asian at that specifically. Either way, i don't think there's any real live action anime entries that really have hit the spot for me apart from Alita and that didn't make box office waves. |

I hate this notion that, oh because it's a Japanese property, therefore everyone is Asian. When in reality, Dragon Ball was very diverse.

I honestly can't see a property like Dragon Ball working in a live action setting. I could be wrong, but I feel like they'd end up having to change it so much that it'd be something more like Evolution than like the source material.
