Default DTS-MA or FULLHD using Analog Audio Out

Is it true that all computer based Blu-Ray players like powerDVD/Arcsoft/WinDVD downsample the original DTS-MA / LPCM / TrueHD Audio at 24/96 or 24/192, if we output the Audio using the Multichannel analog output of the sound card?

And my Sound card can handle 24bit upto 192Khz.

I have searched the forum and found that its false, but Why i am asking you all is - a guy who claimed himself as a Project Manager is forcefully telling that its NOT POSSIBLE without down sample, Is it TRUE?

Yes they do downsample to 16bit/48khz however most material is coming out as ...16bit/48khz. In Windows Vista it is possible to upconvert as high as 24bit/192khz. I've at the opprotunity to compare side by side a standalone bitstreaming to my Yamaha vs my HTPC.....my HTPC won the battle (albeit - the standalone was more convenient...until I got my HDMI 9300 Motherboard) definately not contest then.

But the card I have is XONAR DX and it can handle 24/192 easily as it has Cirrus 4398 and 4362A. http://www.cirrus.com/en/products/pr...html#PA65_open

Fine, the card I have is XONAR DX and it can handle 24/192 easily.

So If I am decoding the DTS-MA / TRUEHD in the software itself(means not Bitstreaming) to LPCM and convert it to Analog, WILL IT PROCESS the audio in 16/48 or 24/192.

That means, my question is

1. Will the Player or Decoder (ATT/Cyberlink/WinDVD) downsample the DTS-HD/TRUEHD AUDIO to 16/48 LPCM before processing/converting to analog?

2. Or will the Souncard Downsample the LPCM Audio to 16/48 Equivalent Analog?

If its the Player, isn't there any solution/alternative available?

You need a specific Xonar model, see here. You'll also need specific software, Arcsoft.

The issue was always securities, and Microsoft would never allow such content, now I believe everyone is on board, and BD audio up to 192/24 is allowed, bitstream and decode on the ASUS Xonar HDAV1.3. I'm not sure about your particular model.

Correct about the HDAV1.3, however the issue surrounding bitstreaming isn't totally a Microsoft issue (if it was the HDAV wouldn't work) it's really a Proctected Audio Path issue. I believe this will be eventuall worked out in the near future. AMD/ATI just iintroduced its first IG motherboard that includes 8 channel LPCM (Intel g45 and Nvidia 93xx/94xx motherboards already had it). Although 24 bit/192khz is allowed most studios are still putting out 16 bit/48khz some are 24 bit/48 khz but no one is really doing 24 bit/192 khz, so right now 16 bit/48khz is basiclly the standard - and some studios are STILL putting out lossy audio However - with my comparisons of Bitstreamiing vs 8 channel LPCM, I heard no sonic advantage in bitstreaming.

I'm also curious about what (if any) software does not downsample decoded TrueHD/DTS-MA tracks. How are LPCM tracks handled?

As a note however, just because many releases are only 16/48 or 24/48 doesn't mean they are "lossy." Very few studio films are even recorded or mixed above 24-bit 48KHz. A 16-bit 48KHz sound track is (Edit) not lossless if that's how it was originally recorded.

The Akira bluray release is the only movie I can think of that has 5.1, 24-bit 192KHz audio (and even in that case most of the original recordings are nowhere near that fidelity).

Pure LPCM tracks are never downsampled. They will playback at full bit and sampling rate (I verified that early with LPCM Blurays - along with Dadkins )
