Default B&W 684B's vs. ML Motion 12's

On the fence here so appreciate y'alls input; AVR will be a Pioneer Elite VSX-50.

Upgrading from the Bose in my sig so 2:1 is about all I have room for.

TIA - Rich

Just found out that the B&W's can be bi-amped by the Pio.

Please see the following:

"These were amazing right out of the box. Once I figured out how to bi-amp them (I have a Pioneer Elite SC-35), they really came alive. If you have the ability to bi-amp, these are truly amazing."

Could anyone here verify this and how might it be done?

Yes you can Bi-amp the 684s you normaly take your SBL and SBR channels and set them to bi-amp mode in your reciver each reciver is difrent so i cant advise where the option is on the Pioneer. As for the sound yes i can vouch that the 684s come alive alot more once bi-amped however i cant comment on the Motion 12's as have not heared them.

Motion 12's sound really nice also.. Nice sound stage.. You can usually get them on New Egg pretty cheap.

$350 a side at New Egg right now; $30 less than BB.

The B&W 684's are $550 a side but they can be bi-amped; shoudn't need a sub which will make up the price difference.

Yes, you will need a sub - the 684 is not a true full range speaker.

Agreed; but in an apt., I suspect 40hz to be about as low as I can go without disturbing my neighbors.

Plus, won't I get a better low-end thru the bi-amping?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm; decisions, decisions, decisions.

OT - (I know this isn't the receiver forum but you guys know what speakers I'm looking at by the Topic; so no Flames or PLONK's please)

Just got back from BB; now it's between Onkyo TX-NR609 & Pioneer Elite VSX-50.

I know, I know; will ya just go ahead and buy it already?

Both would be a good choice. I own a pair of B&W CM8s that i love! A little different that 684s but i also just bought a pair of Motion 12's (just for 2 channel audio) and they are killer too!! Tough call, but if you're not going to get a sub i would lean towards the Martin Logans! Kind of weird that the "BNWaddict" is saying that but they are truly great speakers. Good luck either way!!

for the record, bi-amping with a receivers sbl/sbr speaker terminals will have no effect on the sound of the speakers. Bi-amping with 2 seperate power sources and an active crossover would be a very different process, but you wont be doing that.

I have my personal preference, but you should make up your own mind by listening to them and seeing what you like the best.

The advantage of non-active bi-ampiing is very subjective. To truly bi-amp you must use separate amps for each driver and an active crossover. If you want better bass, you should consider a sub and think about pacing and speed when you choose.

It's a separate device...look in my galley to see an example of one (Behringer DCX 2496)
