Default The PS3 - Too difficult to programme?

Not entirely sure where to begin, so i'll try and cut to the main beef that is annoying me at the moment. I'm an avid gamer, the PS3 is my first console having previously been a pc owner. In the 18 months that i have had a 60 gig PS3 one thing that keeps cropping up is the fact that the PS3 is difficult to programme for.

This has been reflected in games such as GTA 4 which is 640p, Ghostbusters 540p (!) and even Conan which is 576p. The main concern is that the PS3 doesn't seem to have as much graphics memory available to it, which i don't quite understand. The PS3 (like it's microsoft competitor) has a 256mb graphics card and a full half-gig of Ram. I think the actual ram is split for some reason, so why are so many companies complaining that the pS3 is difficult to programme for? Activision in particular are facing up to the fact that the new Ghostbusters game looks atrocious compared to the 360 version.

Any light either Techies or anyone else could shed on this matter would be fantastic, thank you. It's been bugging me for a while, so perhaps you could help me get to the bottom of it.

Thanks again, people.

David.

the problem is game companies make games for the 360 then port to ps3.
the 360 is a very weak system

if companies made games for the better system (ps3) then ported 'what they could' to 360......then we would never have this problem.

The PS3 has 256mb VRAM and 256mb RAM compared to the 360's 512mb shared RAM. Also it's called a GPU in this case not a graphics card because it's soldrered directly into the motherboard. Also it is true the PS3 is hard to code for but if the develops spend the time and care they really can push more out of the PS3 like the 1st party devs.

Devs that have the people that know how to program on the PS3 usually come out with better games than what the X360 can produce (graphics wise). The problem is there isn't a lot of companies that seem to be willing to want to put in the effort (or $$$) to get the right people or the right skills to do this. Honestly I don't blame them, Sony isn't exactly in a position of power being 3rd this gen so why should they spend extra money on the console that is in last place?
