Does it look and sound just like the U.S. version????
Cause that disc was stunning and an amazing transfer all around, does it look and sound exactly the same?

Seriously probably going to pick this one up.

Been on a Statham kick ever since I got my 'Transporter 3' steelbook. Talk about mindless, fun entertainment!

I am getting it for $30. Only thing before I buy it is I need to know if it looks and sounds the same as the original U.S. release.

Same AR, DTS HD-MA instead of PCM (so I'm sure the sound is quite comparable). The French version has an MPEG-4 encode and the US release has a MPEG-2 encode.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit if the French version isn't better than the US release. jwbbud has some of the European releases he's been watching on his 'B' player, and told me once that a lot of the releases over there do trump ours. Wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't the same here.

For $30, that's a great buy!

Someone who has it came chime in on this, I'm sure.

I can't ask the guy who is selling it to me because it's sealed so he never watched it.
I have a region free player so I can play anything in the world. I will post on here what it looks like compared to the U.S. release. Is the audio better? I'm not good with this, is MPEG-4 better than MPEG-2?

No, not necessarily better -- it all has to do with the encode from the source. I've seen it debated ad nauseum, but from what I understand if the process is done correctly, they'll look pretty much identical. However, MPEG-4 bitrates will be lower. But that's more technical than even I need to know.

Going to the same with the audio -- it's all going to come down to how it was encoded from the source. PCM/DTS-HD MA can be identical.

My point wasn't to say one is going to be better than the other based on the stats, but just to give you the information, and show you how comparable they are. I'd be surprised if you noticed a big difference between the two, although as I said, I hear that the European counterparts are in many cases "better" than the US versions.

Just FYI, please remember that this French Steel, as well as the other TF1 releases (Pulp Fiction, etc.) have forced subtitles...yes, you will have to see the English version of the movie with French subtitles with no ability to get rid of them...now, that may not bother you but to me that affects the picture quality quite a bit

...I, for one, have replaced the disc with the U.S. version...

Unless you use a Blu-ray drive on the computer and have a program that allows you to remove them.

Thanks, halamadrid!

I had completely forgotten about forced french subs on TF1 releases. That may well make a huge difference.

Hey DutchBoy,

As for me, after a while of watching the TF1 movies I don't even notice the sub's!

Or you can always swap out the disc like halamadrid did.

I bought it and it has forced french subtitles. The quality is BARELY better than the American version, but is really hard to even notice it.
Disc is region locked in region B.
Just letting everyone know.
