I'm not sure where to post this - Blu-Ray Players, PS3, 3D players, Home Theater, Receivers... it kind of involves all of the above. So I'll start here.
I have a PS3 slim and a Sony STR-DH800 7.1 Receiver. I just got a new Epson 3010 3D-capable projector. Here's my problem: My receiver apparently can't handle the 3D video. I get a message from my PS3 saying my TV doesn't support 3D (it does, but the receiver it's trying to go through does not). So I have to plug my PS3 directly into my projector (via HDMI) to view it. Fine. No problem. ...BUT, since the PS3 only has one HDMI port, I would have connect to my receiver using optical instead. But as I understand it, optical can't carry 7.1 audio. (Actually, at the moment I can't get any audio through my optical cable, so the cable may be bad anyway) So with my current equipment do I have no way of watching 3D and still getting DTS-HD or Doly True HD sound? I have seen HDMI splitters I can get so I can go from the PS3's single HDMI port to both the receiver and the projector, but will it then still give me an error message and not play 3D? Or since one of the devices it's connecting to CAN process 3D, will it play and not give the error? |
