USA The Clones of Bruce Lee (1980) Blu-ray

Shoreline Entertainment will be releasing The Clones of Bruce Lee (1980) on Blu-ray on February 20th. This is a MOD release, and looks like it will be a BD-R.

Quote:
Bruce Lee has just died, but the BSI is swinging into action to salvage the situation. Aided by the brilliant Professor Lucas, cells from the martial arts master are removed and grown into 3 adult Bruce Lee clones. After undergoing training to bring their skills up to the level of their 'father', the 3 are sent out to battle crime, with one sent to take on a gold smuggler, and the other 2 teaming up to shut down an evil mad scientist. Long Summary: Professor Lucas, a brilliant scientist took samples of the late master's brain tissue. Using these samples, he creates three perfect clones of Lee: Bruce Lee 1 (Dragon Lee), Bruce Lee 2 (Bruce Le), and Bruce Lee 3 (Bruce Lai). They are trained in martial arts by Bolo Yeung and Chiang Tao. The mission of the clones is to fight crime. Bruce Lee 1 goes undercover as an actor for a corrupt, gold-smuggling producer who plans to have him die on camera. Meanwhile, the other clones go to Thailand where they meet up with Chuck (Bruce Thai), a local SBI agent who is not a clone but who also resembles Bruce Lee. They have been assigned to kill Dr. Ngai, a mad scientist who is plotting to take over the world with his army of bronze automatons: men whose skin turns to metal when they are injected with Ngai's special formula. The clones successfully complete their missions and return to Hong Kong. But Professor Lucas, disgruntled because he feels he was not properly rewarded by the SBI for creating the clones, pits them against one another. Trivia: 1980 Hong Kong, Bruceploitation martial arts film capitalizing on the death of actor and martial arts star Bruce Lee in 1973. The film gathers together several of the many Lee imitators who sprang up after the icon's death (including Dragon Lee, Bruce Le, and Bruce Lai), alongside performers from the real Lee's films and other veterans of the Hong Kong movie industry. It has been called The Mount Rushmore of Bruceploitation films. Original title: Shen wei san meng long Argentina: El gigante Bruce Lee Brazil: Os Clones de Bruce Lee Czech Republic: Potomci Bruce Lea Greece: Oi 3 kitrinoi dynamites Italy: Bruce Lee - Il volto della vendetta Netherlands: De draken van Bruce Lee Peru: El gigante Bruce Lee Portugal: Bruce Lee - A Face da Vinganca South Korea: Death Penalty on Three Robots Spain: La saga de Bruce Lee Turkey: Uc altin adam West Germany: Bruce Lee - Seine Erben nehmen Rache
(This trailer isn't from Shoreline and may not represent what the BD will look like)

I only know of this movie because the long-forgotten movie reviewer Spoony talked about this back in the day... I get a little melancholia remembering his glory days of before 2012.

Time flies.

Is this PD? Seems like a major omission from the forthcoming Severin set if not - its the titular film!

Yeah, pretty sure it is. This is a MOD release, not sure if it's burned or pressed yet. I was surprised to see it pop up with other Allied Vaughn / MOD stuff.

Shoreline are a firm that puts out dogshit quality copies of PD stuff (including this title) at digital places and whatnot.

I'm very surprised the trailer indicates a proper HD transfer in OAR, even if its dubbed and looks to be culled from a theatrical print.

Maybe this was spearheaded by another company and Shoreline are distributing on their behalf (like the VCI release of Dynamo for PEARL RIVER COLLECTION).

there was a spanish company called zineploitation who released this on BD-R a few years back, the same print was used for a german DVD. Very likely the same print here, it had an issue with a squished aspect ratio i think

The trailer isn't from them, just some random one I'm using to accompany the thread. The BD will probably be worse lol. I'll make a note of that at the top of the trailer.

I miss Spoony, he was my favorite reviewer/personality in the early YouTube days.

The movie should've came from 88 Films or Severin, never heard of this outfit before.

I think folks jumped the gun on a 'Severin set' being ever released...there has been zero word for months of anything of that nature being done.

Yeah maybe, but you would think they would release the documentary along with some films. If not that's a missed opportunity.

That's how I first learned about this movie as well.

I'm not saying this is a GOOD movie, but I do feel bad that it's relegated to BD-R...

I must admit, the one that went by Bruce Lai really did make a lot of facial expressions and moves that almost made you think it was Lee. He was one of the better clones.

I'm fairly confident this is a bootleg and that someone is trying to pip Severin to the post.

It probably isn't. Just treated as such.
