Canada Zack and Miri-Aspect ratio

I was wondering if the alliance version of Zack and Miri has the same aspect ratio as the US version?. The alliance version has an aspect ratio of 1:78, where as from all the reviews I have read, the US version has an aspect ratio of 1:85. Thanks.

There's no tiny black line so the US Blu-Ray is 1.78:1. Studios commonly flub up the aspect ratio for 1.78:1 and 1.85:1. There's no real difference between these two formats. If it was 1.78:1 and 2.35:1 then, yeah there's a big difference.

The studios/distributors do not flub the aspect ratio. Paramount, Warner, and Weinstein purposely reframe films for 1.78:1 widescreen. The thinking is that since most TVs have overscan, then the framing would be corrected by the overscan. However, a lot of newer televisions can now display the proper full aspect ratio without overscan. So you essentially are getting a bit more picture information with these types of televisions.

When I wrote it, I was talking on the case where they list the aspect ratio. Either way, 1.78:1 and 1.85:1 is pretty much the same.

That's true. Warner always has it listed 1.85:1 when they open the matte to 1.78.
