Default Replacing driver question.

For that past few months i have been running an ED A5-350, after the initial defect, i fell in love with the sub, 3 months later one day out of the blue i want to watch "Stealth", the sub amp goes to orange and does not kick on, ED sends me a new amp, the new amp kicks on fine, but i discover that one of the voice coils is bad on the sub, ED saids that i blew the woofer which blew the amp, so i have to pay for the woofer. That did not happen, i believe a surge was sent through the amp, either way it was not ed's fault so i purchased the woofer. For the last month i have been running the a5 and it cannot handle near the power the previous woofer could, for three months i never heard a single clip out of the original one, but the new one i cant seem to get it to stop clipping. So im looking to purchase a different 15' driver that can handle more power, any recommendations in the 200.00- 300.00 range?

I upgraded my 10" sub with a Dayton 10" High Fidelity driver and am very pleased with the quality and performance. Here are two 15" High Output models with 800W RMS/1100W Max and 800W RMS/1400W MAX (specs). They are not dual coils though.

Good luck!

One of the best 15" subwoofer drivers for home applications is the Dayton TIT400C-4 15" Titanic Mk III for $220. I use one in a 15" DIY subwoofer. It has very good low frequency extension and can accept a lot of watts.

You should check the DIY Subwoofer Building & Repairing. There are pictures of 15" DIY sub at the beginning of Post #2. Also, there are plenty of good links at the end of Post #2. I will merge this thread into that thread. Post some pictures there.

Make sure you add some polyfill to your subwoofer without over stuffing it.

I can't make a comparison as I have never used the ED sub. The Titanic sub that I own plays deep and takes a lot of power. I have played very loud music and movies through it, but so far no sign of stress or bottoming. The ED box is pretty big. Subwoofer drivers shine in bigger boxes.
