Do not accept the first or even second trial offer they give you. If you hold out long enough they will offer you a term of three months of free Prime. I purposely waited to accept it until I knew I was going to be using it in the Christmas season.

Amazon has always allowed you to manually change the shipping method for unfullfilled orders. Once you sign up for the trial, you might want to try it and see if manually changing the shipping method to two-day shipping will update a previous order with the free shipping option.
