Default When to buy is my question

I need thoughts on when to purchase a TV for the best price.

This is thread is not about plasmas, LCDs, LEDs, etc.

It is about "when should I purchase to get the best deal"

1) The TV came out a few months ago for about $4,000

2) BB, Fry's now have it for about $3600 plus tax

3) I can get it shipped to my home for the total cost of $3099 off the Internet through a good company that is having a great sale.

4) In a few months the manufacturer is introducing and upgrade. I don't want the upgrade.

My question is: Go ahead and get it now while it is $3099.00 OR wait to see it will drop lower than the sale price I have right now?

I am having trouble waiting. I don't want to wait if the TV is going to go down a little in price as time goes on BUT I will feel screwed If I purchased now and it drops tremendously after the upgrade arrives and it is getting close to Christmas.

Any thoughts?????

Well, you can sell blood and hopefully have enough from working by Christmas to buy it. I know it may sound crazy but it's a pint every 8 weeks. But with the money you saved up from selling your blood, you can buy the upgraded version.

I have heard rumors that the upgrade will be close to $5,000 and as far as I can see the upgrade isn't going to be worth and extra $2000 for someone like me who is retired, no longer has a bunch of $$$ coming in and the economy has taken a 1/3 of my retirement out of the bank. So, I am trying to be as frugle as possible.

That is why I am asking the forum when would be the best time for cost savings.....

Now with a great sales price or do you think it might go down considerable by the end of summer or close to Christmes????

Do you think I should wait to see if the food price would get any lower within a week from now? You gotta eat, right!? No one can predict anything with the prices. We have all purchased something in the past and later on find out that somewhere it cost less.....or more. Today PCs is tomorrow ancient technology. Buy with your guts.

Yeah, you can play the waiting game forever. When will the price justify the wait, though? That's really what you need to consider. If the current price of $3099 shipped is reasonable to you, and reasonable to you NOW, then buy it now. You know it's going to come down in price; that is inevitable. Do you want it now, though, or do you want to wait a certain amount months when it reaches x price?

My personal experience is I bought my TV for a price well below retail at the time I bought it. Only a few months later, retail price was noticeably less than what I paid for it. I was mad at myself for about six seconds, then I realized "crap, I've had an awesome TV for several months, and it was well worth the non-saved money to have it all this time."

Your mileage may vary.

I played the waiting game with my Kuro forever, until I got it for $1,968. Then I watched it skyrocket back up, and its nigh unfindable now.

I just checked my TV for fun. In over a year the tv's price has gone down 200$ but I know at one point it was down 400$ so I would be inclined to take a deal when it arrives.

About 3/4 down on page. Says the best time to buy is around the holidays. I've also heard that May is a good month because they are trying to get rid of the old models before the new models come out.
