Default Funny People: Doesn't look that funny...

I love comedies, they are among my favorite genre of movies - and I'm not trying to be a cynic here, but the trailers they keep showing for Funny People on TV can't even crack a smile from me. Actually I've started to cringe at it. Maybe they're not showing the funny stuff intentionally so as to suprise everyone, but the top 3 jokes in the trailers-- 1. "Die Hard doctor", 2. "Harry Potter getting old", 3. "Grand Theft Auto in real life" are all INCREDIBLY lame.

It seems like Hollywood is like "hey, Judd, here's some millions, go make us another movie to laugh it. Get anyone from your crew that you can get... Seth Rogan, Elizabeth Banks, Paul Rudd, Jonah, your wife...whoever, oh maybe this time get your friend Adam Sandler, too."

Bleh.

Ebert gave it 3 1/2 and early reports are that it's Apatows best. Might not be his funniest but it will be the best movie he's made.

Also people are saying Sandler is better here than in Punch Drunk Love.

I'm going to see it tomorrow for sure.

it looks great, it seems funny but quite serious, and how can you not laugh at "I don't think you pass though fire to go to heaven, I think she went to hell"

I avoided most of the commercials until this week, sadly the Harry Potter line seems to be nearing overkill status. I'm still excited for it though, I like Sandler in movies he didn't write (these days, anyway).

I've found it curious how they're promoting this movie. Some previews make it seem like strictly a comedy, and some make it seem like a serious movie. I'm not a huge Sandler fan, and I'm sick of Rogen, but I think it looks good, not good enough to see in the theater, but definitely worth a watch on Blu-ray.

Well, regardless of anything else, as tomorrow is my birthday, and there is not much else to do, we are going to see this.

Rogen and Apatow were on Stern this morning. While I've gotten bored with both of them, their appearance renewed my interest. Looking forward to seeing this on BD when it comes out.

I don't understand why people are SOOOOO jealous of seth rogan. Entourage had an episode last week where Turtle ripped on Seth Rogan the entire episode. Sure he isn't the best looking guy, he basically plays the same character each movie...wait...don't SEVERAL comedians do that? will farrell, adam sandler (his early years), jim carey, eddie murphy (early years), chris farley (rip brother!), dane cook, ben stiller...john cusak in the 80s....

this looks absolutely hysterical! how can you go wrong with sandler, rogan, bana, hill....i'm sure there will be more cameos too. i heard aziz ansari has a cameo, he is awesome!

skip it if you will, to each his own. i'm gladly going to check this out on saturday

who's jealous of him? just because people are tired of him doesn't mean they're jealous

and if you paid attention, after that episode aired, everyone ripped into entourage for being stupid and 2 years late to the joke

I think this movie is gonna be great. I think it is gonna be funny but not as laugh out loud as the previous 2 Apatow directed movies. It has a more serious tone, and deals with heavy issues. I still think it will be funny though.

heh yeah i was aware of that. even read a seth rogan quote, something about how entourage is stupid and the writers suck.

i'm excited for this because apatow used to run in the stand-up comedy scene. should be interesting to see if he writes about his own experiences, etc.

...So, that's that comic who isn't funny, right?

Like how they broadcast "The THIRD FILM from Judd Apatow!", as if we're either supposed to judge it as an automatic classic for having his name on it, or think he's Stanley Kubrick, who's allowed to let three or four years go between actually-directed projects.

As for Sandler, he's taking no chances--
He's putting every darn Happy Madison contract star in this one, Rob Schneider and David Spade included...One gets the impression of an all-out last stand.

Funny People is a dramedy, if people don't know that going into it, that's their fault for not properly researching a movie. I will be seeing this myself, I think it will be one of the best movies of the year.
