At my home we have 5 TV sets receiving Over The Air reception only. "Free TV". I'll bypass most TV specs for the sake of clarity and brevity. I live in the "heights" section and we have line of site with the Empire State Building transmitter, with only a few buildings in the way. Easily under 5 miles away.
Ground floor Basement HDTV: Using the famed Phillips Silver Sensor antenna I get all the local channels and a few extra. I only get PBS when the metal blinds are pulled up most of the way and the antenna is oriented just right. Sometimes I lose channel 9.1 It's the hardest spot in the house to get reception. I have a Winegard SS-3000 on order in hopes of improving the reception there. 2nd floor living room HDTV: Uses a 20 year old UHF/VHF roof antenna. Still some breakup issues on certain channels. Hoping things improve after June 12th and we re-run the tuner. I would still prefer a new roof antenna. 2nd floor bedroom TV with Craig's digital convertor box: Using a Radio Shack Rabbit Ears and UHF ring antenna for the time being. The UHF ring has to lay near horizontal to maintain a signal strength of about 60%. No PBS 13.x. Reception varied with orientation. Not overly concerned as it is a temporary solution. Two third floor HDTV's with Silver Sensor antenna's.: Probably only 20 feet difference between the two identicle sets and antenna. Both pick up our traditional local channels with some nice extra's higher up in the UHF spectrum. Some of the SD stations suffer from pixelation. Even this sometimes varies from momentary to near constant. I'm convinced that a proper outdoor antenna would be the best solution, but we ARE getting more digital channels than analog. But according to Yahoo's TV guide, I am still missing some other digital channels. I am hoping the Winegard SS-3000 gives me more channels, but it is a crap shoot. What about you?
